Someone was trying to sell me a set of j30 brakes at a very reasonable price. now what i want to know is if its worth upgrading to? I know that the verts have bigger brakes than regular s13s, but is it anything noticeable

Get 'em! The 'vert has slightly larger ABS calipers and pads in the front of the car vs. the standard non-abs versions on the regular coupes and hatches. It's not a very noticable upgrade.

J30 brakes are a great upgrade for the 240sx. Especially the heavier convertible model.

Here's a really nice article on NICO about the J30 upgrade. zerothread?id=175773

You will notice a great improvement!

Here's my thoughts on common break upgrades for the 'vert.300zx > Q45 > J30 >>>>> 240sx 'vert > 240sx.

There's a Maxima upgrade in there somewhere too... Maybe like this:Aftermarket > 300zx > Q45 > J30 > > > Maxima > > 240sx vert > 240sx

The rotor size isn't going to be much, but the J30s are 2 piston brakes if I recall, so you have more pad area and much more gripping force.

What? Rotor size is much thicker. Also as far as I can tell my J30 brakes compared to my friends Q45s seem to be about the same.

Here's a picture from the write up I linked.

J30's are on the bottom.

If I recall correctly, there isn't a whole lot of difference in the rotor, but the calipers are a world apart. The Z32 calipers are the king - four piston dual opposed (two on one side, two on the other) is far greater than single-sided dual piston calipers. As an additional style bonus, the Z calipers say "nissan".

In other words, you look at your brake pedal and your face will smack the steering wheel

LOL.. yeah.. pretty much right.

The Z32 rotors are larger as well. Here's another decent article on brake upgrades.. I normally despise wiki links, but this one seems pretty much on the ball.http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/N...rakes
