Well it appears from the article that Nissan fell as they have entered the big truck/SUV market and are experiencing problems from the new vehicles.

Further proof SUVs suck

Nissan aggressively pushed into the full-size pickup truck and large sport utility vehicle segment over the past year with new models built at a Mississippi plant. Porsche expanded beyond its niche of sporty cars with the launch of the Cayenne SUV.

"It's not uncommon for a manufacturer entering a new segment to stumble a bit," Walters said.

Nissan's score dropped to 147 problems per 100 vehicles, ranking it 10th among major automakers, with 12 more problems than the 135 recorded last year.

Porsche tumbled from second place last year with 117 problems per 100 vehicles, to last with 159.

I hate SUVS.. Mainly because 99% of the drivers are either women or just plain bad drivers (the two combine quite nicely)

They get in the way, their lights shine directly into my eyes.. They are unsporty, unsafe, and generally driven by idiots..

Whats amazing is that if you hop into the front seat of an Elantra, the evenness of the paint, fit and finish, and sturdiness of materials is -better- than a new Civic. The korean makes are coming up fast.

Judging by the quality of the interiors of the new Infiniti's. I'm not suprised. Its as if Nissan has taken their cars into domestic maker territory as soon as they started making a bit of money.

Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus are still consistent with their vehicles.

Am I blind, or is Hyundai not even on the list for 5-year old cars? Too many problems perhaps? My pops drives a '95 Sonata. On the surface, it's a pretty nifty car. Sporty, with good room, a V6 and a sunroof for not much money. Sadly, it is the worst piece of crap I have ever had to drive. The downshift from 2-1 is like hitting a wall while moving. The paint is so bad, bird droppings routinely take the paint off entirely, leaving only primer. Really, I think there's only *one* coat of pigment on it. The driver's door doesn't line up right with the body, and there's hella wind noise as a result at anything above 40. There's already an oil leak(s) from the engine, even though he only has 33k on it. The engine is iron, so rust is a major problem. I'm happy for Hyundai if they can right their wrongs and turn out quality at a bargain price. The WalMart of car dealerships maybe. But I don't think I'll be purchasing one anytime soon.

Hyundai still was pretty halfass until the end of the century. Its only recently that they've finally come up. If I were in the market for a soft and comfy four-door sedan to blend in with traffic and get from point A to point B (never my criteria for choosing cars anyway) then I'd pick a Sonata. Or I'd pick a Buick LaCrosse.

This is a bit of topic. Did you guys know that General Motors had to come up with another name for the Buick Lacrosse to sell in Canada? The word Lacrosse is slang for masturbatlon in (Canadian) French.

GM is marketing the LaCrosse as the Allure in Canada.

My mom has 2001/2 Hyundai Santa Fe. I must admit that it is really nice and very reliable. It seems to be well built. The only real problem I see is that it could use a little more power, but otherwise I am very impressed by it.

I am providing all the HVAC equipment and Building Automation system for the new Hyundai plant, in Montgomery, Alabama. I have been working on this project for over a year, now.

I have been impressed with the quality of the new Santa Fe (I get rides, from the Hyundai engineers around the jobsite), and the glimpses of the new Sonata (there are a couple pre-production ones in the testing lab), show a much improved car.

My brother's company builds seats for the new Chevrolet Malibu, and he says Hyundai has better panel tolerances, than any US mfg, and is only second to Volkswagen. I was suprised by this statement, until I saw it for myself. They are definitely building a better car, these days.
