The radio in my 93 j-30 died. Last week, it went off while driving. 30 minutes later, Power worked. This morning, would not power on. Will not accept tape, appears as though power is lost - any insights?

thats what happens to those bose units. you can have it repaired but it costs several hundred dollars. might as well buy an aftermarket stereo thats better and costs less money.

I read somewhere, sometime that the problem you describe has a very simple cause and a fairly cheap fix. The earlier J's had a problem with the wire that provides the power supply. The length of wire used was short enough that vibrations would break the solder off at the connection to the power switch causing the problem. No need for a new unit just new solder. This gremlin was fixed in later models.

Any of the older hands remember this discussion on the old yahoo site? Too bad so many of those posts are lost now.

on ebay somone has posted the cost to repair up for bids for a j30 stereo. around $130. i saw it couple of weeks ago. they post quite often. the bad thind is you have to take apart yourself and ship it in. once fixed they ship back. are they trust worthy? iono. good luck!!
