J 30 T not shifting from first gear

MY 94 J 30 T HAS ABOUT 122, 200 MILES ON IT. RECENTLY WE HAVE REPLACED THE FLY WHEEL,IGNITION,TENSION ROD AND HEADLIGHT LAMP. WE ARE NOW HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANS THAT CAN NOT BE DETECTED WITH OUR MECHANIC. hAS ANYONE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANS GETTING HUNG UP IN FIRST AND NOT CHANGING?

As for the transmission, does it rev to change gears and won't go from first to second or second to third?

It could possibly be your transmission rev sensor.

does it not go in reverse??? i had a similar problem with it. my car wouldnt go in reverse unless i reved it up to like 6000 rpm's, then it would violently shift into reverse, tires squealing and the works. and i had problems shifting from first. if i had the car sitting still and not on for like 4-5 hours, it would work prefectly fine, until i try to shift from drive to reverse. the mechanic i went to said it was the "planetary"(sp??) gear was stripped. had to have the transmission replaced.

by the way, if the planetary gears are stripped, the transmission would not shift into any gear, and the car would not move at all, as the planet gears along with the sun and ring gears do all of the transfer of power, and the transmission gear ratios totally depend on these set of gears. that is very very rare to happen as these gears are made very tough, chances are that the clutch plates in the auto transmission would be damaged long before the planetary gears...

as for the shifting problem, check your shif solenoids, i think that is a good way to start, and if it is only a problem changing from first, then most likely it is a shift solenoid, hope this helps, good luck

Can the shift solenoids affect reverse?

A bad solenoid would most likely throw a transmission malfunction code... Reverse isnt controlled by the solenoids IIRC, you just shift it and it actually puts the trans in reverse, not the solenoids putting it in reverse....

Not shifting out of first to me the first thing Id check is the TPS...

Yes the solenoids have alot to do with allthe gears. Except 3rd which is direct drive.
