J-30 1993 Smoke coming from between steering wheel & column

My 1993 J-30 has smoke coming from between steering column and steering wheel,smells like transistors burning and seems to be related to the turn signal, when the signal is off I can still hear the clicking sound but the signal is in the off position and the indicator lights are off. and it happens more often in the warmer weather, if anyone can tell me for sure what the problem is I will be eternally greatful

Better hope your airbag isn't ready to explode. Could be fatal if it happens while you are driving.

Forgot to mention, if you open up the area to try to find the short disconnect the battery and wait ten minutes before starting work to disarm the airbag. If it blew up while you were working on the steering wheel if could kill you.
