something weird seems to be happening to my car when i get to approximately 5psi boost... it makes a screeching/hissing sound from under the hood. this problem is pretty hard to track down being that it only boosts under a load... i cant be outside the car. the only thing it has as a constant is that 5psi boost mark... ive uploaded a cell phone video recording to photobucket the link is listed below.

ive got a 1989 nissan 240sx with a blacktop sr20det... supporting mods are 3in intake piping, hks bov, turbo xs manual boost control and an autometer boost gauge. 3in exhaust piping downpipe back.

any help is appreciated.

If it is boost related then check your turbo for shaft play and oil seepage. other than that, older cars make noises..... Period lol.

alright... so new developments... my "screech" turned into an exhaust leak... a big one... looks like it was just whistling out of the gasket between the header and the turbo when one of the four studs snapped.... so then it got worse, and started shaking loose the other three... then the exhaust leak... then hobbling it home, it got drastic and blew half of the gasket out... SOOOOOOooooo... ive got some work to do in light of needing to locate another gasket for replacement... i went down to my local napa auto parts store, and got replacement studs, nuts, and lock washers... but they had nothing for me when it came to the gasket. looking into it, some simple gasket maker wont do because of the extreme heat, and stamping one out myself isnt an option because i simply dont have the tools or material.... so what is it that you nissan techie guys recomend? below is a picture of the problem.

i was also looking into buying a header for the car... i figure i can get one with a legit gasket as well... something that looks cool for the sr20det, and is functional too... any recomendations?

-------------- also the turbo seems to be incredibly healthy. zero shaft play, it has pushed through small amounts of oil into the intake piping, BUT i have no idea if that is even recent or not, because the oil inside the piping is dirty, and my motor oil is 2kmi old, still clean, hasnt dropped the level on the dipstick AND it doesnt smoke... EVER... so along with being 5-30w synthetic, i think im doing alright. :woot:

Id get oem 300zx twin turbo gasket. Or go to a metal scrap yard and pick up a small sheet of copper and then go to harbor freight and pick up some tin snips and make your own.
