Hey guysive been doing some research and it looks like the common first upgrades are the intake and the plenum spacer. Ive got ~$500 to spend. i was thinking the jwt charger (i live in a place where its wet a lot. dont think cold air would be good). and im was thinking the motordyne spacer but im not sure which to get. theres about 10 of them on their website. i was going to get the 5/16 spacer but there are 3 different versions. any suggestions on what i should get or which NOT to get?

JWT pop charger 110$MD 350Z 5/16" Basic Plenum Spacer 235$

I have an '05 350z performance model.

thanks for your help!

This is really an open question bc we don't know what your intentions for the car are at this point. What do you want to do in the future with this car? What type of things are important to you? Drive comfort, power, sound systems, looks...etc. Are you thinking possible turbo or supercharge or NA? Things like that will help people give you good ideas.

The things you've mentioned are great first mods tho. If you live in an area that is wet then the JWT popcharger is good idea and I've heard time and again its the best bang for the buck. BUT if you wanted a CAI you could get a nismo or AEM and the bypass valve that goes with them and that would help prevent water getting into you motor. I've also read that the 5/16" spacer is the way to go as well. I don't know either from experience tho so hopefully someone else will chime in and throw in their .02

well i was thinking in the way way future of putting in a TT, but that puts a ton of stress on the car. so i was thinking SC, but i know the car was pretty much made for TT. im not entirely sure when im going to get to TT's so...

Power is more along the lines of what im looking for. Sound systems are just nice to have.

I dont know what i should or should do if im going to put in TT's. i guess i havent done enough homework. It seems like between NA TT and SC, the engine is going to be built in 3 different ways. so what i guess im saying is what can i upgrade that will give me some more HP and will allow me to make my decision later on whether or not i will TT SC or NA the car?

thanks

Well if you are looking for things that won't need to be removed no matter what you decide to do your options are fairly limited. Lots of SC or TT kits come with a new cone air filter, but those are cheap enough that it doesn't really matter if you get one. You won't want to bother getting headers unless you know for sure that it'll be n/a or SC only. You can probably get an exhaust I don't think that'll be too much of an issue. I am not sure about plenum spacers......I don't know if those are worth having on when you go FI. You also won't want to pick out a new/different cam till you decide where you're going with the motor.

So basically in my train of thought. I would say Intake, exhaust, intake manifold (pick one that's good for n/a and FI), clutch, and lightweight flywheel, new rear end gearing, new lsd. And other than suspension mods that's all I can think of.

alright thanks alot for your help guys!!

it sucks that ur really limited to a few things until you go big money. if u do go big money ur better off just getting a car with a bigger engine. but its a Z. when i first saw this car i needed to have 1 at any cost.

I talked to ryan from injected performance and he gave me some good information on the Greddy TT...I would look into it if you're considering any type of forced induction, that or the HKS rotrex kit....mostly because with both of those you could use Cosworth intake plenum...

but in any sense i would think another thing you could do that you'll prolly want to do later anyways is suspension...you'd have to save for a bit longer but if you were going to do exhaust you'd have save up anyways....

and when it comes to spending big bucks I think its worth it to have the Z...you can spend less than 30k and have a really fast and great looking car (depending on which year car you buy) This car as real potential!

Great post Aris!

Mapping out your car's development plan may seem like a pain in your seat warmer at first, but its going to save you a lot of time, money and frustration in the long run.

As unappealing as it may sound the first thing you should consider is to make sure everything on the car is as it should be before you start making any modifications. It always pays to start with a good foundation.
