So, we've had the Roadster out of commission for a few weeks, installing the new seats, seat belts with shoulder harness, and roll bar...

In the meantime, I had bought a set of OG Appliance wire wheels (ebay)... these were a dealer option and common upgrade in the 70's for a lot of Datsuns - and in the photo on the auction, they were pictured on a 240Z.

Auction description even stated they were used on a classic Z, so, 4x114.3 (4x4.5") bolt pattern.

I spent a whole day detailing them out, cleaning off the accumulation of dust and funk (seller said they were in storage for 20+ years)... Becky takes the Roadster wheels and tires up to our tire shop, gets them swapped out...

Image

She likes them, and I think they'll look great once we have the car repainted (classic Z green, a little lighter than British Racing Green)... with the tan interior and roll bar, should look way cool.

...until I try to mount them. DAMMIT.

Somehow, they're 4x120mm (4x4.72") bolt pattern. No way, no how, are these ever gonna fit on a 4x114.3.

I either got scammed, or the owner of the Z got them mixed up with some other wheels - Or, he had them bolted on precariously without the proper lugs (but it would hop around like a toad on crack).

So, I go to look around to see if I can sell them online... Someone will want them, right?

To make matters worse, NOTHING has a 4x120 bolt pattern (except a first-gen Civic and possibly a first-gen RX7)... neither of which give a damn about chrome wire wheels.

<sigh> DO. NOT. LIKE.

Did you try to contact the seller about the situation? Regardless, this absolutely blows. I get where I trust eBay less and less every day to purchase from individuals. I used to get awesome deals, but now I can get better deals elsewhere, sometimes even locally.

Unfortunately, as is the case with most of the stuff I snag for the project cars, I bought them nearly a year ago...

Guess I'd better find a 1st-gen Civic or Accord owner who likes wire wheels... Hey, it could happen, right? :(

ah poo. adapters? You'd be spacing them out too though... But a machine shop should be able to do it for you pretty easily.

Is it possible to redrill the wheels? I can't see the picture in this thread for some reason.

Nah, it'd get into the hub. Adapters are out, since the offset already puts them at "roll the fenders" width. :(

Kinda wondered that myself... Old Jag?

Short of searching each car individually, the 'net hasn't been too helpful. I certainly don't want to put them out there as fitting something and being wrong.

maybe ask the original seller too for advice? maybe he didn't mean to screw you over.

You could always try the VW forums. A VW bro with enough swag will buy these and run them with adapters for extra mad poke.

Why not put them out there and list the pattern and see if anyone finds you? Too easy for ya?

Shave the hubs and use adapters?

If not, they'll sell in Los Angeles. Just saying.

There are shops that will drill and fill the wheels to change the lug pattern.
There's a place around here called WheelFlip that charges $150 a set.

Jag pattern is usually 5x108 or 5x120.65 (or center knock off). :(
Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a four-lug Jag.

Not on these - It would get into the hub. Trust me, if they could be modded, I have access to a machine shop right here...

I think you're right tho, they'll sell in LA. I may just bring them to JCCS and offload 'em there.

^^EDIT: Ninja'ed by the big guy! ^^

Hold on to them and sell them to someone with a Mazda 1800 or RX5 when you do your next classics show.

They're too cool for a 1st Gen Accord/Civic. They'd look great on my old 1st Gen Prelude, but that's 4x100.

I'll likely list them on ebay and see if I can find them a new home before JCCS> If not, they'll make the trip to SoCal.
