s13 rb25det: so ive been kinda smelling warm oil in my car occasionally, at first i thought it was an exhaust leak but upon further inspection i found that my stock turbo has some fresh oil on the center section, it appeared to be leaking from aroun the return hose to the block and it was .....BUT..... it was also seeping from around where the compressor housing and center section are connected; below is a pic its not a close up and i had wiped most of the oil off already but it gives you an idea of the places it was leaking from. its not pouring out oil or anything , ive never had an low oil issues and it never really smokes, so i tightened the bolts on the return a little and it isnt really leaking there anymore but it still has some seeping from around the housing, it still spools fast and holds boost (although i have recently started noticing slight creep high in the rpm range).i think that this turbo has been going since i got the car because i never really thought it was as fast as it should be, so now im gonna get a new turbo, manifold and injectors ive read a bunch of threads saying that the gt30 garret turbos are the best for this engine, but martin at xat strongly recommended the gt35, he also told me he knows there are people using a certain type of ebay manifold without problems he said it was around $200 and placed the collector on top between cyl 3 and 4 anyone know which one hes talking about, i dont trust ebay but he says that they work good so im willing to give it a shot. im gonna get a set of deatsch works 555s and prolly a tial w/g, all appr. lines fittings etc.. im also getting 1300 bucks for body work from this guys that hit my cars insurance !!! so im basically going to be getting a whole new car in the next few weeks!! anyone want to make any suggestions for the new setup / paint scheme (two tone white and bronze maybe)....

There's no way I'd subject myself to trying to read that, but it looks like it's RB-related so it gets moved.

We just slapped a new Garret GT3076R internal gated turbo by ATP on my buddies stock manifold. Only mod was grind down some of the cast manifold to clear the turbo housing. Fit perfect with just enough room for the intercooler pipes.

the 35r is a touch too big for these motors...rather too big for a street car.

Thats a matter of opinion. I am running a 35R and I love it, great power and response, and the torque is just outstanding! I recommend that Turbo to anyone with a RB25!

lol i highly doubt a "real" gt35r would have the words power and response in the same sentence, its LARGE turbo that i highly doubt would see full boost till 4.5-5k.granted the .63 ar on a gt35r is like a .86 ar on a gt30r on simmilar motors its still big imho for what most ppl want...after all its a 550-650whp turbo if not more.

Did anyone in here do a home job with a rb25, how much did it cost you in the end.

Ok maybe not the response of a 30r, or smaller, but its a REAL 35R bought from a Garrett Dealer. As far as anything else is concerned it produces a substancial amount of power per RPM. Even at 4.5K till full boost. But then again he didn't mention how much power he was trying to obtain. If you want a reliable turbo that will get you to 500whp or more that I suggest the 35R after all he does have a 2.5L, not a 2.0L

The turbo came with flanges for the turbo outlet but no gaskets. Its a direct bolt to the factory manifold. We had to grind the manifold just slightly so we could rotate the housing. It came with 14 psi spring in the wastegate. We reused soem of th factory lines by rebending them but most of them we just got steal braided lines with banjo fittings.

Ill try to get the pics of it up tonight.

well i have a 60-1 turbo that i really wanted to throw on my RB, but unfortunately the housing is too darn big to even get piping down to it if i were to run it on the stock manifold..looks like im gonna have to save it for my top mount manifold after i get her running and all the bugs worked out.right now im going to have to stick with the stock turbo but i am getting it rebuilt and swapping out the garbage ceramic wheel with an inconel wheel so i dont have to worry about that thing flying apart.

Parts, Motor, Everything

around 8000.00 USD

Thats doing it right the first time with parts and all, and having it start up after 6-7 cranks of the starter.

Technically with bare minimum you could probably get a RB 25 swap done for about 5650. Thats 2500 for motorset, 1000 for shell (s13), 450 for mounts,350 for drive shaft, 700 for CatBack and DP, 300 Wiring Harness, 250 for FMIC and 100 for BOV

yeah but the 25's run hotter than sh1t, I'd ahve to say a must add-on is a Koyo Rad, Cooling fans, and Oil Cooler. Thats just me, but I feel that those are a nessecity!

Really... how much for the wheel, and for which turbo? What trim?
