just thought id show off the new addition to my family... 1993 RB20DET... 63k KM.. i paid 1200 for this motor down in Hollywood FL from a place called The JDM Engine Outlet. Really good guys very helpful, engine is BONE STOCK and from what he told me it came out of a 4 door... so it probably has been babied. Its as stock as ive ever seen. has new water pump, valve cover gaskets. Turbo has minimal shaftplay up and down and almost 0 in and out. very clean overall i feel like this was the best motor. 90% of their motors were nasty and dirty and i noticed this one sitting amongst the GTR RB26 motorsets he has sitting there so i told him i want THAT ONE no questions asked. Came with ECU, MAF, Harness, Engine, Trans, had some newish stock mounds and a stock transmission mount. Looks great to me and im very excited... TIME TO TEAR DOWN, INSPECT, AND REBUILD STRONGER!

heres some pics

240DRFT, im getting rid of the SR simply because, its becoming an every day thing. I love my SR to death and will continue to drive her daily until the RB is ready. but there are 8 or 9 SR powered cars in my town right now... my friend mark and i are the only now with RB's (neither installed yet) he bought the RB25.5 NEO6 motor... got a damn good price i think he paid 2600 after all was said and done... i just wanted something different and NO ONE within about a 50 mile radius of my area has an RB20DET so i decided to get it. GLAD i went that way.

74260zt, actually this was one of the FEW clean motors he had, he does not clean his motors. He goes directly there to pick them up himself and hand pick them, pulls them, ships them, puts them in his warehouse, sells them. he is one of these people that believes the customer should see EXACTLY what it looked liek and to see that they are not trying to hide something. he said he found this one and grabbed it up immediately. he had MANY 25's and 26's even had a TOMEI CRATE MOTOR CA18DET... pretty cool to look at, not something id want to pay for (5000 bux) he had 2 R34 GTR motorsets there, witht he red valvecover as seen in one of your signatures above but he wanted insane money for them... it was a LONG but fun day today, never really been to a place like that. needless to say, I WAS IN HEAVEN!

Was this place right off of 595 and University? Was the guy's name Farley or Chris that you bought the engine from? I got my RB25 set from these guys and the motor was in really good shape. Decent customer service. Yeah, he's got some serious stuff in the warehouse including at least 2 700hp modded RB26's.

I wish my RB was that clean when I first got it. Mine was covered in grease and oil from the other engines in the warehouse. What mountings are you going to use? Skyline xmember? Tophat Mounts? McKinney Mounts?

I have Top Hat Mounts and they work like a charm. It was a very tight fit but after attempting to install it for nearly 30 mins it went in nice and stiff! Love em.

Good luck with your project.

no this guys name was richard he was kind of west indian? anyway im going with tophat mounts only cause of my pocket depth. what motor did you put in your car that it was so tight and what chassis? i know the RB is a tight fit but you make it sound almost impossible lol

the main beef i have with tophat mounts is the isolaters they use are fcking garbage, for any motor making power i would look for stiffer ones...

I must've gotten lucky with the new gen mounts then, mine are fcking stiff as hell and they're made of win. I suppose it wouldnt hurt to go get some solid aluminum isolaters later though for road course use when i have more HP, but they're great for now.

CLEAN motor.

You are correct but when I spoke with Mike Sims on the phone he said they have improved them greatly. When I installed my motor, it was tricky cause the mounts were so stiff they would bend them the way you want them. I guess they that fixed that problem they had. Plus I have yet to read about some TopHat mounts failing on someone; not during the installation but while on the road.

The new isolators arent so bad man, i've got ones from early january and they havent faded a bit and dont rattle around like the old ones.

i just put a set of the tophat mounts on a s13 and i didnt think the isolators were that great, they honestly should be made of something harder like polyurathane...

here is a little bit of progress that i have made. also i have pressure checked all the cyl's with a leakdown tester and found i have a blown headgasket on 5 and 6. heres a picture of the current state of the engine, it will be up on a stand with the head coming over this weekend hopefully!

You're lucky that the motor's out of the car when you have identified that the HG is blown...Try changing that bish with the motor still in the car like I'm still doing The hardest part is getting the damn intake manifold off and once that's taken care of, it comes apart fairly quickly. Just follow the FSM and get the head planed and possibly even the block. Good luck and keep the pics coming.

I would spend the money on arp head bolts before you buy a steel head gaskit. the stock gaskit can hold the boost. its the head bolts i would worry about. You will lift the head before you blow a stock gaskit out.
