Thanks to everyone whose answered my questions in the past, and most thanks to boost_boy ( Dee) for shipping an awsome motor, and sticking with his word even when the shipping company screwed me over... First off let me say that even though this is the first ca18 i've seen in real life, I would also say that its the most clean used engine i've seen, The head and block look almost new, no oil or coolant stains any where... The timing belt has been serviced by Nissan in Japan along with oil changes using factory oil filters and the stock clutch or OEM replacement was stilll there, has pretty good life left. I feel pretty confident that this motor will last quite a while. I've replaced the thermostat and gasket, spark plugs, 02 housing, clutch and cut the flywheel, along with new coolant/heater hoses and got rid of/ re-routed all new vac lines. So far so good. I took the heatsheild of and polished it.lol. its matches the thermostat housing now. haha. it actually looks really good. Inside the oil filler cap is nothing but aluminum, no cooked oil, no brown/red burned oil stains... It almost looks steam cleaned? Any ways i'll be replacing the rear main seal while i have the flywheel off. I also plan to use puralator or k&n oil filters along with mobil 1 10-40 oil. One question though about the coolant, Its been suggested to me by my shop teacher to use distilled water with a rust inhibitor? will this work better then tap water? thanks again i'll keep everyone posted. pic's to come when my camera decides to work again. lol

distilled water is better than tap water.

tap water is filled with contaminants and impurities which can build up in certain places (that nasty stuff on the ends of the hard pipes under the hoses) which can eventually lead to blockage and/or create other problems. distilled water is supposed to be clean and thus impurities can't build and cause problems. dunno about a rust inhibitor though, not sure if that is necessary. the only addative i've ever heard of people using is water wetter

^^

yes, distilled water with water wetter is awesome, though it has rust/corrosion protection in it.

f s t caz... do you go to odu?

Distilled water and a good coolant is all you need. Any decent coolant already has anticorossive addatives in it. If you are in an area where freezing temperatures aren't a concern, then distilled water and water wetter will work just fine.

So just use a good non-diluted coolant and some distilled water? 50/50 mix? its a steady 10-25 deg around here lately

The more coolant you use, the higher the boiling point and the lower the freezing point. 50/50 is the minimum I use in teh winter (sub-zero temps for a month or two). Usually I try for 66/33 or 75/25 coolant/water in the winter.

A ice-cracked block isn't something you want

the more cooland you use the less your car cools.what cools is the water. nothing else. coolant just raises the boilling point and lowers the freezing point

sucks to hear about your car... mines sitting in my garage in north va for almost a year now... i'm hoping to complete my swap over break... or at least figure out the last few parts i need.

A few more things to add. Im not sure which cold pipe to get as I just bought an ARC SMIC and im pretty sure it was for an sr even tho I got it from needCAfors13 (sean) who was running it on his CA but my inlet and out let pipes from my old s13 smic fit it perfectly? So which cold pipe should I get? If anyone with one of the metal ones would be interested in making another one and selling it to me I have cash in hand. I got to looking and it seems that the SOHC ka Injen cold air intake will fit at the throttle body and follows the same route until the i/c, so maybe have someone weld a 90' bend on it? I dunno, if any one has some info on this thanks.
