After about a month i finally got my front clip for just under two grand, shipped and all. The engine is surprising clean but it smells like rats have been living in the engine bay and from some clumps of fuzz and such that i have found stuck in the joints of my intake/intercooler pipes i think i've found the nest. Aside from the awful smell the clip is beautiful. I even got the gauge cluster and climate controls. yay! i wish the hood was in better condition though, because its the same color as my car. anyway. here are the pics!

**UPDATE**ok these should workhttp://users.adelphia.net/~res...e.jpghttp://users.adelphia.net/~res...y.jpghttp://users.adelphia.net/~res...e.jpghttp://users.adelphia.net/~res...r.jpg

the engine bay is just a little dusty.when looking at the intercooler you may notice little black gaps that look like bent fins... when in fact they aren't, they're just gaps where there is no dirt/mud. I inspected the intercooler closer and it is in mint shape, aside from all the dirt and mud caked in the fins of course :ylsuper unfortunately i have no use for it because my fmic should arrive next week. maybe i can sell my side mount to some dsm kid heh. if you look at the gauge closely as well you'll notice there are over 117,000 kilometers on the engine... oh well. i'll see what kind of damage is done once i open it all. i can't wait to start working on this thing!

hey who did you get your clip from? Its remarkably complete...looks like you got a good deal (100,000km is like 60k miles so its still "low mileage" by our standards;))

venus auto :ylsuper everyone seemed to be having trouble getting just a motor set so i opted for a clip. i even got the drive shaft, which i forgot to take a picture of. venus is a little hard to deal with but they keep their word... as far as i know at least. i still have to take the engine apart to see if anything is wrong, they say they tested it.

dont take it apart, had this discussion before.if you take it off it voids the warranty...on the other hand, how do you know if its good till you take it apart...oh well, do whatever

i'm certaintly not going to run the engine as it is. i'm gonna being modding the car so i have to make sure the engine itself is in good condition, along with puting in newer, stronger parts.

btw, where can i find specs on how tight to tighten everything down? like the bolts in the rods, head, etc.?

Man if I were you, I would just install and go! Or better yet, run your own compression test to see where you stand. If you're in the 140-150ish area, install motor, wire harness and begin. boosting. Tearing it down right away kinda defeats the purpose when in fact you could've taken a simple pulsar motor, tore it down and built it the way you want instead of spend big $$$s on an engine that you're going to tear down. Anyway bro, congrats on getting your clip, but from experience of people on the boards it's safe to say check the compression and rod bearings and enjoy your new motor and save your money for a serious build-up! MY $.03 cents:D

how do i go about checking my rod bearings? all i'm gonna do when i tear it down is put in new piston rings and maybe just get new pistons, new crank/rod bearings, head gasket, head bolts and maybe put a little work into the valve train. i mostly wanna make sure everything is in good working order.

Quote »how do i go about checking my rod bearings?[/quote] Take off the oil pan and rotate the crank to TDC, remove the rod bearing caps and inspect change the bearings. Be sure to retorque the rod nuts back to specification of the FSM or pulsar service manual. Those stock rods and piston/rings are well up to the task of what you're looking for? But if you're going to build a wicked motor, get another block and crank and start from there. If you're really worried, change the rod bearings, water pump and timing belt and drive.

where would you get a RWD transmission if you start from the pulsar block? s12 200sx?what about intake/exhaust manifolds, etc?

well i'm looking for 300-350hp, daily driven. they can handle that? btw, my fmic just showed up today and when i look at it compared to every other intercooler i've seen... i notice that my end tanks are angular instead of rounded. what's up with that? could this cause flow problems? i can take a picture if you need. thanks.

i have another question, sorry. I was hoping to have this engine last me quite some time so would it be in my best interest to at least put in new crank and rod bearing?
