Ok guys my grandpa purchased a 240sx coupe convertible back in 1993. He drove it until 2002 then parked it eversince then. Its a black on black 240, but here is the thing. If its been sitting for almost 7 years does anyone think it will crank right up when i install the battery. Cause battery was taken out. Still has old fuel in it. Should i even start it up like that . Also what are some things that i have to change. Im a noob on starting old engines lol.

Its been sitting for 7 years WITH FLUIDS!?!?

I would flush and change ALL the fluids, check all rubber lines for damage/rotting.

Don't want to destroy the engine from a leak.

It depends too where it was stored for those seven years. But i agree no need to over look the little things and blow up a motor. At the very least oil and flush the gas tank, old gas is just gona push crap through the lines and block of fuel filter and injectors. Iv always learned better safe than sorry. Also get pics up ASAP i bet that vert looks super clean as long as it was garaged. Good luck OP

Definitely change the oil first. Then disconnect the fuel line before it gets to the injectors, and turn the key to the "ON position" to start the fuel pump. Do this for a few minutes, then give the pump a break, and do it for a few minutes again til most of the gas is out. Bring fresh gas to the car and put it in. Cycle the pump about 2 more times, then change the fuel filter. Replace the battery and crank her up. After running for 5 or so minutes, if you don't see any leaks, change out the coolant (after everything has cooled off of course). It would probably also be a good idea to change out the thermostat and maybe the coolant temp sensor.

After that I'd do a fluid flush in the transmission, then change the oil in the rear diff. After 2 tanks of fuel, I'd run seafoam through it, then change the fuel filter again, and then give it the tune-up (plugs, wires, cap/rotor, O2 sensor, belts, and some hoses).

Other than that you're going to have to play it by ear (listen for any squeaks/rattles/hisses/leaks).

Ok guys today i went and picked up a optima battery so i got that installed. When i turned the key all lights and everything work. I also flushed the coolant and it was a hint of brown to the water. So i put some new coolant in prestone 50/50. Bought some spark plugs and mobile one oil which im gonna do tommarow. and hopefully saterday have some time to flush the old gas tank and run the engine on some 101 to clean injectors out and everything.

Pull the plugs and pour some transmission fluid or marvel mystery oil in the spark plug holes. Let this set for a little while. This will help lube the upper cylinders and help with compression.A dry cylinder leaks compression like crazy. Unplug coil wire and crank engine over and see if it's stuck. If it's not stuck and turns over freely your ok. After you crank it and clear all the fluid out reinstall the plugs. Hey, this is a good time to install those new plugs. Now change the oil. I would continue to crank engine with coil wire off till the oil light goes off. This way you won't starve the crankshaft and bearing of oil when it starts.

Listen to these people.

All info in this thread has been helpful (very rare occurrence).

I'd change the trans fluid too. Most cars have trans dipsticks don't they? Cause my bimmer DOESN'T have one and it's driving me crazy. I'm so ready to get rid of this thing, I had to change my upper radiator hose because it got sliced by my aux fan and that when I noticed there's no radiator cap on the radiator. (at least not on the top or bottom). That car is so a** backwards and I'm so ready for an s13.

But yeah change trans fluid, take pictures, disregard females, acquire currency.

Yea i haven't bought it yet but i guess i will. PRetty easy. But ey man i feel u on the m3 thing. Before i got my s13 i had a cl500 coupe 1995. It was like a high matience b****. Took a s*** load of money from me and was just tired of it and wanted to get ride of it so badly like you. But ey be patient and put it up for sale. S13's are not so easy to if you dont get a clean one. So know that yea bimmers are a paS cause of parts and stuff but 240s are nearly the same excopt parts are cheaper lol. wayyyyyyyy cheaper.

Some WD-40 should work just fine. I would manually turn over the engine a few rotations to make sure everything is moving.

The biggest problem I see you having will be with the fuel system. After 7 years you are going to have varnish build up. Be prepared to replace the fuel filter several times. Assuming you get her to run, get her home and clean out the injectors or have a second set handy. At some point, pull off the fuel pump cover and look into the fuel cell with a flash light. You will marvel at how much rust will be in there. A lot of moisture gets trapped in there

All in all though, good luck with your new to you ride.

Agreed I would

- buy new injector O rings- Get sea foam and pour some into a cup and soak the injector in/out tip in the sea foam to get the junk to break loose.-Replace the fuel filter and flexable fuel line sections, drain the tank, fill with fresh gas and an entire can of sea-foam.

- Little WD 40 in the spark plug hoses, manually trn crank.-Change oil and filter-CRC QD contact cleaner the electrical connections- inspect / replace cap and rotor-replace plugs- Drain and fill the coolant system (more then once after running)-Try cranking her over.
