as a new 2006 M35x with 46k miles, I brought my new car to local Inf Dlr to give it a check up. I was having issues with my brakes vibrating at highway speeds. Dealer was happy to resurface the rotors for me for around $200 which fixed the problem. I just found the above TSB which states "all vehicles need to have brake rotors resurfaced...due to judders". My question is, if my dealer was qualified wouldnt they have looked for this type of bulletin? Secondly, am I entitled to go back and discuss this TSB with my dealer and ask for a refund?

Interesting. During a recent oil change (42K mi) my service rep identified that my front rotors were warped and needed to be resurfaced. But my service rep said that there was only about 7000 to 10,000 miles left on my brake pads so I might as well wait until my brake pads need replacement as the rotor resurface was part of the brake job. The service rep said the only down side in waiting would be a slight pulsing (judder?) in my brake pedal with the warped rotors. I was quoted $200 for the resurface, which would be a waste as they would probably be resurfaced again in 6 months when my pads were replaced. Sounded like good advice and I didn't do the resurface now.

So, is this rotor warping what ITB04-038 is addressing? And if so, just because there is a TSB does that mean it’s covered under warranty, or perhaps do you still need to pay? And lastly, $200 for a rotor resurface sounds pricey - how is what Infiniti does any better than the $50 resurface at NAPA?

I had the same problem with the vibration and my rotors needed to be resurfaced as well but i just though the dealership is kinda crazy with there price it is easily 100 over what any other place would charge you but i wonder if they checked to see how long you had before you needed a full brake service just cause your rotors can only be resurfaced so many times before they are no good

I can't access the service bulletin site from work, but if I remember correctly this problem must be diagnosed under 15,000 miles in order for it to be replaced under warranty. 42,000+ miles is well within normal parameters for some disk warping to occur. Unless it is severe it can usually be handled by planing the rotors, however this will require the rotors to be replaced at the next brake job.

TSB are just addendum to FSM, things found and delineated after FSM printed.

Brakes are not covered beyond 12k for wear and tear or warping. Same with any paid replacement parts 12k is the warranty.

thanks. My dealer also confirmed 12k coverage for the rotors.
