here's what I've been working on the past couple days. They're all done and ready to go on my S14, except for the fact that I don't have my standalone.

ITB = individual throttle bodies. they are from a gsxr 1000 $165 shipped.

I cut the runners off of a stock S14 mani, and put these on.

Wow, that looks awesome. I'm amazed the Suzuki ITB's match the KA intake so well.

I won't be using any of that stuff. all gone. with standalone, you don't need it. Just essentials are needed to run the car. TPS, MAP sensor, Ignition, Temp Sensors, and that's about it. There's a couple more I'm forgetting.

hey deviousKA just out of curiosity how much power does your itb s13 make? and also can someone tell me what the wire and sensor on the side of the itb is for?

I won't have the car ready for the ITB's until spring of this coming year.

That sensor with wires coming out of it is the Throttle Position Sensor.

I think deviousKA's car makes about 12 bajillion hp. give or take a few bajillion.

so what if i could get my ECu programed to use a MAP sensor, could i still get rid of the IIA unit? and would this work at all?

My car is in winter hibernation at the moment (i live in idaho, pignose lip is not a good snow plow), hp wise, i will not be satisfied with any less than 200whp. Once it is fine tuned ill drive a couple hundred miles to the nearest dyno and share my sheet with you all. My itb setup is similar to PandaS14's, except he has the newer generation KeiHin throttles. Might as well show a pic eh? I pulled it off last week to begin working on my new fuel rail.

This is not easily possible with oem ecu (map sensor that is). I have heard of some japanese built unit for nissans, map sensor unit that converts to usable nissan maf signal. Price is rumored to be 600ish US dollars, hardly worth it. Standalone map ecu and new or modified harness is the way to go, i use a modified megasquirt ecu and distributorless ignition. I have much less than 600 invested and it is very powerful and easy to use.

Good work boys - I love seeing creative ideas at work!

Just an observation deviousKA and PandaS14..I think with the ITB's you could have a larger radius on the lips (similar to the TWM Induction units.) This will improve breathing. The ideal formula is r/d=.5 where D is the max diameter of the ITB. So if you have a 45mm ITB, the ideal radius on the lip of the ITB would be 22.5mm

What's the inner diameter of those ITB's?

The actual throttle plates and the inner diameter where they mount to the manifold is 43-44mm approximately. On the other side of the throttle plates it begins to taper out, and is 50mm main inlet i.d. on the throttles themselves. The stack inner diameter at the base is 50mm. These are appropriate size and is not to small by any means, compared to commonly availabe expensive dcoe mount type throttle bodies (like 45dcoe type, which have basically identical plate size). Both the gsxr 750 and 1000cc from year 2000 and up have the same i.d. and plate dimensions. PandaS14 has a newer generation casting. One advantage of the earlier version like mine is that they can all be split up and spaced individually, although as you can see with my sohc version (and his dohc version) line up is great. My runners have just a slight angle to bring it out to the gsxr spacing.

You can see that the first runner that is next to my water neck has little angle at all, to give as much clearance in that area. Spacing is taken up with the second. Its real close up and unflattering shot, looks much better on the car.

Oh NateDogg, yeah full radius stacks are nice and would give some improvement, but they arent cheap (4 probably total much more than i have into my full itb setup as of now). I like my stacks i have a full set of longs (pictured) and a full set of shorts which are 1 inch shorter. I am waiting on an air filter and baseplate from the UK but open stack is good for initial setup and tuning.

a few more questions for ya DeviousKA, if you built a plenum to put on the end of the throttle bodies you could still use a maf correct? now how will the stock fuel injectors work for this and would a stock 240 maf read the flow on the itb or would you need to upgrade to a z32 maf and bigger injectors? i know it would be more beneficial to upgrade them but do you think itb would run fine on a stock setup if you say use an safc to pump in a little more fuel? and finally anyone now where i can get a 98 dohc intake mani so i can chop it up and test out all the questions i just asked?

Yes you can do something like that, It can work out rather well actually. Stock 270cc injectors will work fine with itb setups your not going to hit 190-200hp right off the bat, same goes for maf. Someone over at club240.com did just this with his de and gsxr itbs. http://www.club240.com/forums/...15633

Is there a post where you have defined your setup? I have decided not to go the swap route engine wise, and was looking at This KA board alot. Distributorless ignition? I would really like to find out more about this, if it is somewhere else.

thanks for the link looks pretty good, now how would you go about making a plenum for it? i know how and everything but i am worried about air velocity not being equal across the itb i.e. the cylinder closest to the firewall would get less air than the cylinder closest to the radiator. also how loud is this going to make my car? would it still be streetable even with a cam? would i still be able to hear my stereo or would the noise drown out everything? sorry for all the questions im just trying to figure out several things before i dive into it.

its me again, one more thing, i wanted to state what i am planning on doing. first the itb with a plenum to keep using the maf setup, upgrade to a z32 maf w/ the adapter plate to attach the apex'i filter on it and use 370cc injectors(unless you think those would be over kill) then get the new pdm cam( had the jwt cam in my 95 so thought i would try something different) then send off the ecu to jwt to have them retune it for all those modifications plus i have a hotshot header and exhaust system. now does it sound like i have a good plan of attack? how much do you think ill get out of all this?

Not trying to be a d!ck.....

but if one of your priorities is still being able to hear your stereo over the roar of the ITB's, they most likely are not for you.

You wouldn't need 370's for that setup. Without high comp and/or a major engine build, most likely wouldn't need bigger injectors. 200rwhp is the max, so if you are over that, you need bigger ones.

its not that but i want to know how streetable the car would be. my 95 i had an intake port polish jwt cams hotshot header a jwt ecu electic fan with the clutched removed hks hipower exhaust 4.083 Ring and pinion high stall torque converter etc etc and it was tame while cruising and i could listen to the stereo but at WOT it was a demon and when hammering it i could care less about the stereo. i just wanted to know if it would be comfortable still as a daily driver, does anyone have any sound files or videos they would like to share because i have never heard a car with itb on it

one more question, sorry guy, the part where the itb connect to the intake manifold is the upper manifold right? just want reassurance before i go and by the wrong part

Don't know how to quantify how loud open ITB's are, but rest assured, they are quite loud.

Yes, you want upper half of intake manifold, not the half with the plenum.

That is hellafied gangsta ninja pimp....

If this is a dumb question I'm sorry, I don't know much about setting up ITB's, but where does the air filter go? It doesn't just suck in unfiltered air, does it?

Nice work there man. I think you posted this on zilvia.net also and met with a lot of nay-sayers and ****-talkers. ("no runners, no torque, blah blah")

Glad to see the response on NICO is all positive. Just goes to show that there are more enthusiasts here. Anyway, I bet that car is going to be a screamer. I'm guessing that with ITB's "responsive throttle" will be an understatement.. Some sort of hood scoop/ram air setup would be cool to see also.

Cheers,

C
