Kemp i may take you up on that! i ordered a new felpro friday while picking up supplies for a SR build we are doing.
The motor had CP pistons and rings. HKS cams tomei valve springs and retainers. Evo8 turbo and megaquirt i was running about 18psi at the track. we added some timing over all to my map blindly and un tested at that. not smart to do, but i wanted to get some low end torque added. The car was running great. its sluggish off boost and needed a good refine on its tune, but it was driftable in 3rd gear as long as you held the speed up.
I took it apart hastily last night as i had other plans that were more important. but i got the head off and i should have done a compression test first as my HG was in tact. this leads me to believe its somthing else. possibly i warped the head, but it did not show any signs of flame travel on the HG which i would expect to see if combustion made it into the oil system an pressurized the crank case. Possibly i broke a ring or ringlands or multiple. but the pistons and head show no signs of detonation or melting what so ever, they have decent carbon build up but cleaned up around the edges easily. im leaning towards its that or i lifted the head. two of my head bolts were not as tight as the rest when we took it apart.
tomorrow im pulling the engine the rest of the way out of the car and pulling the oil pan and the rods to check the ring lands. I may build some sort of pressure checker to try to get around that as its hot as hell here and im lazy when its my car. i would rather spend two hours building the device then having to pull the motor apart. The head will be going to the machine shop monday to get checked. I have a spare if i warped it badly.
