First, let me say I do not promote street racing, and try to avoid it at all times.

On the way home, I was traveling about 70 MPH. A modified white 2003 Cobra passed me.

I realized that I had set my cruise on 70, and then bumped it up to 77. I kinda caught the guy, and he sped up & slowed down a few times. I was trying to ignore him. I could tell he wanted to open it up.

Traffic was extremely light, and it was well after dark. A Mercedees S500 got between us while passing a transfer truck, and slowed me down a good bit. When I cleared him, I bumped it up to about 100 to get back where I was in traffic.

I caught the Mistang, and slowed to 80 to have a travelling buddy (to get the speeding ticket for me), then decided to open her up.

I was running about 130 before the Mustang caught me. It took him a while, but must have been running about 150 when he caught me.

By leaving it in Drive, the car wanted to shift into 4th about 135, then would slow down enough to cause it to shift back into third.

He passed me, then slowed down. He didn't want to run much faster, but wasn't about to let me pass him again.

It felt good to open her up. I needed the adrenaline.

I think the NICO ECU will help with my occasional 10 mile WOT runs. I wnat to bury the needle past the 160 mark. Why else have speed rated tires, if you don't try them out occasionally?

By the way, with all the new suspension parts, the car is dreamy at speed.

So you were in the Q, not the 'vette?

Admittedly, doing those speeds in a Q has this "I'm not really going this fast" feeling to it ... and that's what's so great about them .

Awesome. I bet it didnt even feel that fast until you looked down at the speedo.

These cars were made for these types of speeds.

I bet that didn't sit too well with the Cobra! What up-grades have you done this time Jeff?

Those things always get in my way too.

But it was a Mustang, not a Cobra, no matter what name Fraud purchased.

Sounds like fun, maybe its the racer in me but I would of pushed it to 160, if some one like a mustang was testing me and my cars ability.I dont race or speed in traffic, because I dont want to hurt other insent drivers, but if no one is on the road butt another appoinant I'll go for it. I all so allways carry fire exstingisher, first aid kit ect.

From the thread title, I thought this was going to be about getting caught street racing. Great story.

Good Stuff™!

Jeff, I know you were careful, but for others ... I also strongly advise not doing any high-speed driving on tires (a) that are not at the optimal pressures and (b) that have ever been repaired for a flat (with a patch) and (c) that do not have sufficient tread depth.

In particular, the patches derate the speed rating of the tires, so high-speed travel may cause tire failures at lower speeds than the original speed rating of the tires. This may have fatal consequences!

I envy you for that one, Jeff. I still want to know what the car feels like at 150, but I have to wait til my H-rated tires wear out and I replace 'em.

Yeah, my tires are only good for 168 MPH, so I gotta be careful.

My pocketbook can't handle a $1,000 fine and jail time, so I gotta be careful there, as well.

The Q is bone stock (even the air box), with tokiko blues, new bushings, control arms, tension rods, upper links, 18 x 8 wheels and 245/45/18 tires.

Soon to be added, is the NICO ECU, 300zx brakes, DOT4 brake fluid and SS lines, Cali Custom lowering springs, adjustable control arms, and a custom one-off SS mesh grill. That ought to add about 100 HP, right there!

Kids, don't try this at home.

I am getting ready for a driving school in May, where I can take the Q to the Talladega road course, and eat up the last of these tires. . I gotta keep up with the wifey in the Corvette, or hang my head in shame.

If you each carry 3 passengers, you might well win!

With old tires, it might not be close. G50 does pretty well on the highway against standard models with auto. 'Vette drivers always wondering why they can't shake that luxury import in their mirror al the time.

Yeah, maybe I should let her drive the Q. She has about a 150# advantage over me.

I just realized. I had about 150# of tools and crap in the trunk.

I was driving Lola when we brought the Vette home. It really wasn't much of a contest, kicking it from 80 to 125. She had about 5 car lengths and was pulling away.

Without your new ECU was your speed limiter kicking in? Where's the stock limit set at anyway? I just know my new NICO ECU said "Speed limiter removed"
