Any place where's it's particularly strong? Near the gas cap / filler tube; underneath the driver side rear seat (where the pump is located); or anywhere else?

Probably the filler tube, given it's a 2001.
There are known rust issues with those tubes, and Nissan replaced them for free for a while.
Not sure if they are still doing that though.
I had to replace mine, but Nissan only covered the filler tubes up to 2001.
It wasn't that expensive, and I replaced it myself. A little finicky, but doable.
