Well, I have decided to put the G away again for the winter and today sealed my decision. Earlier today I went to my girl's apartment in the G and it was raining. Apparently the temperature dropped and it started snowing. Well, her parking lot is downhill and sealed with stuff that is even slippery when it rains. Needless to say, it took me a half hour to get out of the lot and I've never been so scared of a measly 3" before . Once I was able to get to the drive that goes down to the street, two cars tried to turn to come up and I said, "Nope, I'm coming down cuz I ain't going back up and I'm not going to make it up."

I already had plans to put it in storage tomorrow, but I guess tomorrow just couldn't wait.

So here's to you all who are still able to enjoy your G during these next five months. Drive em hard for me.

Smockers:

You can be sure Jacko won't disappoint you in the few months of winter. Extend my sincere regards to the G in the garage. She will be missed for just a few months.

I think it's so funny that I'm over here in SoCal wishing we'd have a few weeks of consistent light rain and in other parts of the country, you guys are dreading the inevitable "stowing of the G".

We had light rain for two days over here and now it's in the 50s-60. We could definitely use the water. Especially to combat any other wildfires.

Yeah, that is a stark difference, but there are other more important things that I'm worried about/dreading, such as the job market that I'm trying to navigate.

My predicament in the lot was a difficult one because I could only back up and get myself only turned ~45 degrees to pull out, but if I hit the brakes I would immediately start sliding and, well, a parking lot has cars. Think of that famous video of car after car that slides down that one hill. It was something like that except without the damage. If I had let off the brakes and actually made the turn correctly, I would've gained too much speed to make the next turn and would've ended up in someone's apartment. Some guy was out and he tried to help me and he was getting upset with me because I was doing some things that I shouldn't have been under normal circumstances. But little did he know how well I know how to drive in the snow and I've had my fair share of getting vehicles unstuck and pulling vehicles out, but I appreciated the help for sure.

Well, my friend sold his house last week where I have stored the G the past two winters. So I've had a couple of days with it but its been under the carport for most of the time. So I'm trying to coordinate a trip even further up north with almost infinitely more snow (I know, it sounds counter intuitive) based on the weather to get it to my parents' house. They have a 3-car garage and only two cars, makes sense. And that means when I go to visit, I can start it up and let it run for awhile.

I'm not a tire expert, but how much tread do I have with 6/32 depth? The tires have 27,750 miles on them. I have a hard time believe that in Sept 07 there was 6/32 left and there is still 6/32 left now. At what level do you need to replace them besides the Abe test? I'm just curious because I need to do it sooner rather than later, meaning this week and it looks like no matter what there is going to be some snow forecasted.

Most passenger tires come with 10/32. The wear bars, and usually the legal limit, is 2/32.

Because I live where it rarily rains or snows, I run mine pretty low. In snow or rain, more tread is better. Maybe one of the other owners who lives in a colder part can give you more insight.

I replace my tires when they get to 4/32nds....However, at that point, they have been on the REAR. I like plenty of tread on the front! I normally replace two at a time.(needless to say, the new ones go on the front)

Well, after doing simple research, for winter driving its recommended to have at least 6/32 left. Once I figured that out, I really wanted to see how my tires were doing. Found out that the middle of the tire is down to 2/32, not the 6/32 the dealership put on its report. So now I'm in a race against time to get new tires to head up north tomorrow by noon. The fronts are 4/32 on the outside, 6/32 on the inside. I really wanted to wait until spring to get new tires, to get some real nice ones, but I guess I'll have to wait another year and a half.

Well, to make a short story shorter--no new tires and I'm going to the body shop, again = no storage for winter.
