Well, It seems to be official. By the start of February, XM will be able to get Sirius channels. I called on 12/31 and spoke to Adriane and asked if the merger was going to go thru and she said yes. She put me on hold and confirmed with her manager and came back n the line telling me by the end of January, current XM subscribers will be able to switch over to Sirius! I gave her my XM ID# and Sirius acct# (since I already have 2 radios) and it will automatically be activated by EOM.(end of month)

I'm so excited I can't wait!

Can't wait

It was my understanding that the Sat. units in the Coupe weren't going to be able to pick up the Sirius service after the merger. Did she confirm this? Or are you using a separate unit all together?

According to the woman that I spoke with, she said that Sirius will be able to do OTA programming right to the head unit. All they needed was my XM SID to do this. But I also made sure that we were on the same page so I asked her this question: "So I'll be able to get Sirius with my stereo that came stock with XM right?

Her reply was "Yes Sir!!!"

Bummer that we have to wait till Feb. though.. I want my Sirius now!

Ok. Just wondering if you had to purchase the altima with the bose stereo unit or is the stock unit set up to recieve sat radio. I had a ford expedition with sirius unit in it which i pull before trading in for the altima, and can i say what a good choice, and want my sat radio back. i have a year subscription to sirius and either need to install the separate unit unless the radio is already set for sat radio. help? thanks

The stock, non-premium package (non-bose) stereo is not XM compatible, you would need a receiver and antenna.

That used to be my attitude until I my Coupe & 3 Free Months. I love the Aux Input/my iPod Classic but sometimes, especially on long trips I want Talk, Entertainment & Sports.

I'm actually considering it. I'll see how this merger works out.

Driving my Altima for over 50k per year, I will never be without satellite radio again. I even can't do without it on my rental cars.

As to the title of this thread, I haven't heard any updates on the merger plans.

Please provide something in print as to your claims... This has not been posted anywhere online, and as a result (they are both public companies) it cannot be true (only execs would know) without some sort of press release... im not saying its a lie.. but without something in print.. its just smoke and mirrors

That article is from 2007, and if was going to happen soon you'd think they'd have it announced all over sirius and xm.

In regards to not paying for radio I used to feel the same way. I bought sirius a year ago and can't remember the last time I listened to a cd or my Ipod always have my sirius radio on even at work. Pretty soon were going to be paying for all entertainment like having to buy packages to watch our favorite sports teams. Sorry I'm rambling too much.

Long Beach your too quick for me.

i bought 100 shares of SIRI. Its a smart buy as the merger is almost on its way through. At first they had the FCC and DoJ going against the merger with talk of monopolies, anti-trust, and such. Now they have the FCC on there side and they are fighting the DoJ. The argument that they are not going to be a monopoly as they are fighting for business against regular radio and all the new technology such as streaming audio cell phones and such is holding up and they are on there way. The date is obviously not operant however.

I am not allowed to give advice... But i wouldnt be sitting on shares of a company in an industry that cant make a profit... Theres much better ideas where there is more promising news and less overhang... On a highly liquid stock like this is in the spotlight... Any news or press releases are already priced into the stock.. and if something does change... You would need to be AHEAD of the market... needless to say it is impossible to be ahead of a big company like this.

Well they are were only 2.75 a share when i bought them last night. I see the satellite radio world going big again like in 04. The new prices are sure to gain more customers.

Yeah it is a year old but they are having to go the the FCC red tape. They have not appoved the merger and I am sure the FEDs will hato say something about a monopoly. It might happen but I would not hold my breath.

Whats total bs? The merger is absolutely real. So i called XM today. When your subscription runs out, call them tell them you got a flyer in the mail stating that if you sign up for a year you can get it for $74. Then tell them you lost the flyer with the code on it, but convince them you did get it. They will run you through for one year for 74 bucks! There original price online it $150 for a year! Try it see if it works for you. Worked for me Good luck!

I was referring to the original "it's official" post. I called to do the same thing as the first poster and XM said the merger has not yet been approved so no channel/account sharing is available yet. She said to keep checking http://www.xmmerger.com for updates and when you can switch to Sirius channels.

I guess I didn't make that clear in the original post but originally I called Sirius...NOT XM! Sirius was the one that told me the info that I posted. One the other hand, when XM called me to re-subcribe, they told me the same BS that you were fed. Infact, they stated it was XM that was buying out Sirius and not the other way around. Of course, Sirius told me the opposite. So the question is who is buying who out? XM or Sirius? To me. I believe Sirius has a lot more to offer than XM but that's just MHO.

So is it true that the merger has not gone thru yet and I guess it was premature of me to use the word "Official". But let's face the facts, who the hell want to hear commercials like dinovite and how to cope with troubled kids. Commercials on satellite radio? Wasn't that one of the whole concept of satellite radio...no commercials and un-censorships?

Further fuel to the fire: http://www.tomshardware.com/20...ort_/FTA: Washington (DC) - After months of government probing and questions of antitrust violations, the merger between the two satellite radio services may be coming to a close, according to a news report.

The $4.6 billion deal was first announced last February. However, the companies cannot merge until they receive regulatory approval. Because there are no other satellite radio providers, some have suggested that pulling them together would create a monopoly.

Wall Street analyst site Briefing.com has quoted an unnamed source as saying that the deal may be finalized before the end of the month.

XM and Sirius have contended that standard AM/FM radio is still a viable competition, as are other portable media devices. The merger is widely expected to go through without regulatory hurdles, but the mandatory review process has taken several months.
