So Sunday I decided to tackle why my intermittent wipers would not work. I took off the passenger side fender to see if I could find the ground. After following the harness to the front by the washer resevior I noticed how crappy it looked right above it. I easily pushed my hand through the bottom of the battery tray. So after tearing out the washer resevior and battery, I found the rust is only around the battery tray. the whole thing feels like it was about ready to cave through.

What I'm getting ready to do is to cut out the rusted area and buy everything needed for a battery relocation.

How much should a body shop charge to put in a patch panel though if I get it ready for them to weld in. I've also been contemplating on leaving the car parked until after the holidays and getting some of the other spots that are starting to poke up fixed too.

Thanks for the help

Shouldn't cost more than $75 and that's a really high estimate. Check with the dealer and see if they can give you some diagrams on how its welded together. Ask them to look up the body panels for that section and that should help you and the person doing the work.

if you can get a welder i would just do it myself. welding isnt very hard once you get the hang of it. and plus it doesnt really matter how crappy the welds are since no one is going to see it and it wont be supporting anything anymore.

I would do the welding myself if I had one one and a place to keep it. We're getting a 24X24 garage by christmas. So I may just put the car back together and drive it as is until then, and start a winter project. That'll also help keep me out of trouble with snow filled parking lot fun.

I'm also wondering if I should really do a battery relocation

Thanks for the help so far
