Why not post the price of gas where you are every Friday here?

Lets see where we are a year from now with hopefully a democrat in the white house.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/12/us/12gorda.html

The price of a barrel of oil this morning is just over $110.00 In central New Jersey regular unleaded is $2.99 at a couple of stations and $3.01 at most others. Premium gives me a headache just looking at the price and diesel is close to $4 a gallon.I think the price will raise at most of them later today?

Although this thread is for the price of gasoline, a barrel of oil is rising in price due to the continued devaluation of the dollar. The devalued dollar is caused by a number of factors.

1- The war in Irag for which we have borrowed trillions of dollars (that we do not have to improve education and healthcare in this country )from China

2- The mortgage and housing crises.

The present Republican administration is responsible for both 1 & 2

They also are responsible for their inability to clean up New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.

Please don't get me started.... Oil will continue to rise as will gold and other commodities. Wait till the increased food prices work their way thru the economy. All those that voted for Bush are getting their just reward. Unfortunately those of us that were smart enough not to vote for him are suffering also.

1- The war in Iraq was decided by Congress. That means both parties decided to go over there.

2- The mortgage/housing crisis was caused by greedy investors/lenders that borrowed/lent money they could not afford.

I don't see how Bush is responsible for these things. Careful what you wish for. With a democrat in the white house, you will see a nice chunk of your paycheck taken to pay for some illegal immigrants health care.

In San Diego, we're seeingRegular, average of $3.41Premium, average of $3.82

It seems stations located by the freeways are always 10 to 15 cents higher too. It is easily over 4 bucks a gallon if you look for premium there.

I'm curious why you say this. Last time I checked, the majority of states that tend to vote Republican received more in federal funding than they paid in federal taxes. That would suggest to me that the opposite of your statement would be true.

Some one emailed this to me the other day. Not sure the validity of it, but thought I would share:

Subj: TIPS ON PUMPING GAS

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here inCalifornia we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But myline of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are sometricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA wedeliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular andpremium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when theground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stationshave their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the groundthe more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, sobuying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is notexactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity andthe temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol andother petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. Butthe service stations do not have temperature compensation at thepumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to afast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three(3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumpingon low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while youare pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you arepumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tankbecomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into theunderground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank isHALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you havein your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasolineevaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have aninternal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between thegas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlikeservice stations, here where I work, every truck that we load istemperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exactamount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into thestorage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likelythe gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, andyou might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on thebottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS!

WHERE TO BUY USAGAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. Itmight even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money intothe coffers of Saudi Arabia.Just buy from gas companies that don'timport their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-upthe tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me,my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companiesare the best to buy gas from and which major companies import MiddleEastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell........................... 205,742,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America, from aDictator who hates Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18BILLION! (oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Sunoco..................0 barrels

Conoco..................0 barrels

Sinclair.................0 barrels

B P/Phillips............0 barrels

Hess.......................0 barrels

ARC0....................0 barrels

If you go to Sunoco.com, you will get a list of the station locations near you.

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy andeach is required to state where they get their oil and how much theyare importing.

You guys just need to get use to $5-$6 per gallon prices. Start saving [or give to charity or poor] the current difference to adjust your standard of living, then it won't come as such a shock when in arrives next year.

Not like we haven't had warnings in the past one just 2.5 years ago.

In the early 90's I used to keep records on each fuel fillup. I was paying $1.43 to $1.59 per gallon of premium then. I was driving a new 1990 Mustang 5.0 that costs $15.150.

The percentages seem to be the same now as they were then.

My wife and I were in Europe this summer where gas prices were between $6-7 per gallon. As of today, one gallon of gas in the UK is now $9.50-- about 66% more than Americans pay in general!! I posted these stats about 3 months ago, and while they're about 2 years old, they give us a picture of global gas prices. Just add about 20-25% to each price quote and you can see where prices have gone in the last year. Compared to most >90% of other countries, we have little to complain about:

Price per gallon by country (05-06 prices):Netherlands Amsterdam $6.48Norway Oslo $6.27Italy Milan $5.96Denmark Copenhagen $5.93Belgium Brussels $5.91Sweden Stockholm $5.80United Kingdom London $5.79Germany Frankfurt $5.57France Paris $5.54Portugal Lisbon $5.35Hungary Budapest $4.94Luxembourg $4.82Croatia Zagreb $4.81Ireland Dublin $4.78Switzerland Geneva $4.74Spain Madrid $4.55Japan Tokyo $4.24Czech Republic Prague $4.19Romania Bucharest $4.09Andorra $4.08Estonia Tallinn $3.62Bulgaria Sofia $3.52Brazil Brasilia $3.12Cuba Havana $3.03Taiwan Taipei $2.84Lebanon Beirut $2.63South Africa Johannesburg $2.62Nicaragua Managua $2.61Panama Panama City $2.19Russia Moscow $2.10Puerto Rico San Juan $1.74Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78Egypt Cairo $0.65Nigeria Lagos $0.38Venezuela Caracas $0.12
