It's about time I got off my lazy butt and posted these pics of Versa Uno that I killed August 23, 2007. For those who may have missed it, I got hit in the passenger side quarterpanel by a GMC Envoy going roughly 50mph. The accident was my fault (I pulled out from a stop sign in front of the guy and tried to swerve to avoid me but couldn't. In my meager defense apparently when I checked to the right before advancing the Yukon was in a dip in the road, they had no stop sign... the paramedics told me this is the most dangerous intersection in the county because of that) and worse was I had my 79 year old grandmother in the passenger seat and my girlfriend in my rear passenger seat. The really good news is that everyone (including the couple in the Envoy) walked away. Not sure what became of the Yukon...but when we saw it in the yard next to my Versa the next day we took a few pics...upon further inspection it looked awfully new as well

It's a really good thing that everyone is ok. A few more feet out into the road could have made a world of difference between people walking away or not. Not to be a jerk, but it's a GMC Envoy, not Yukon. If a Yukon had hit you, the damage would have been much worse.

You're right...it was an Envoy...just got it mixed up... i have no interest in SUV's so they all look the same to me.

The car spun 300 degrees before stopping and both front airbags and the side curtain airbags deployed. Either way, this car can take one heck of an impact and keep people inside safe...though I would like to ever avoid anything like that ever again!

Wow, that accident looks really terrible but I'm glad to hear that everyone walked away just fine.

The insurance totalled the car (I'd only had it for 6 months/payments) I had GAP insurance but State Farm paid what I owed (actually about $4 more so Nissan mailed me a check) I was able to cancel the GAP insurance since I didn't use it...and got a prorated amount back which was around $400 and I was able to cancel the extended warranty as well through Nissan and got another $1100 or so back.

Then I bought an almost fully loaded Versa Sl (except Sport package and ABS) for $500 more than I had paid for the Sapphire which was just a base SL. Basically I actually came out a little bit ahead in the deal...better car for about $10 more a month with a better interest rate, but was unable to put down as much as I did originally because I had just paid school tuition...

When your car is declared a Total Loss ("totalled"), they pay you the amount of money it would cost to replace your car with another one of the same year, model, and mileage, less your deductible (for most people, $500). fairly often, especially with older cars, you have to argue with the insurance company to make sure they give you what you are due, and to not try to undercut you by basing the replacement off of wholesale instead of retail.

So no, the insurance did not pay for his new car. It paid off the old car. Once the old car was paid off, he was free to do whatever he wanted to. In this case, go out and buy another new one.

Yeah...basically they paid off the old car (which I had taken a loan out on...) And it took about 2 months for the rebates on the GAP insurance and Extended Warranty to come in the mail. But between the time they totalled out my car and I got those rebates I needed transportation so I looked for a new car with basically a $600 down payment (that I was able to stretch to $1000 with a $400 loan my Dad gave me until the GAP rebate came in the mail)

This time, since I knew what I wanted (another V), I shopped over the internet and emailed a few Nissan dealers and got one about 15 miles away to agree to a price. I gave them my down payment of $1000 they got the car from another dealership (in Indiana) and that Tuesday I went in and signed the papers and drove off with a MUCH NICER V than the one I had before. My payment was about $15/month higher because the car cost $500 more than my old one and I didn't have as much money to put down. But my interest rate was lower due to promotional financing as well. To tell the truth I was worried about the finances initially...even with the GAP insurance, which is supposed to take care of any amount the insurance doesn't pay in a situation like this. But it worked out fine...luckily for me.

Again though, this is not something I EVER want to repeat...I drive like an old lady now...not that I was driving bad before but now I bet I'm obnoxious to follow

My wreck experience was very similar. The insurance adjuster said they use NADA, but that they did not have any prices on the 07 Versa since it was so new. So they gave me invoice + taxes & fees - .15 per mile. They were within $250 of payoff. I'm waiting to see if they came up with the addtional $250 or if GAP will cover it, or if I make a payment & then collect from GAP. Anyway I got in a new Versa that was optioned nicer for about the same money.

Glad everyone was OK.

Yeah check to see how much you owe...they quoted me on the phone about $50 less than I owed....I was going to invoke the GAP, but they told me cancelling the GAP insurance and getting the prorated amount back (about $400) and then paying Nissan was the smarter move...I agreed and that's what we did!!!! A MUCH BETTER move financially...
