George is the new NICO HQ mascot. He's a sun conure, and we're training him... well, actually, he's training us.

Took a few pics:

NICO HQ needs a guinea pig now......but from my past experiences, dogs and guinea pigs don't mix too well, so maybe not such a good idea.

If you took away the beak, feet, and eyes, I'd swear you were trying to feed a mango. Expensive?

The only bird enthusiast I ever knew was my uncle, who was an a-hole postal worker and is now dead. His birds were boring and didn't even have any cool colors.

George was "cheep"... LOL. His owner was going away to college and couldn't keep him.

We have a hamster and two rats. Dog could care less.

George is cool. He was sitting on my shoulder tonight, eating and giving me kisses. He'd fly from his cage into the office with a piece of food in his mouth. He'd land on my shoulder, eat, give me a kiss, then go back for more. :)

Be very careful if you have ceiling fans..... I've seen the results of a bird and fan going at it, the bird lost.

This.

That little bastard isn't gentle. He divebombs the top of your head and just digs his claws into your scalp to stop himself, and then tries to eat your hair. I still luz him though.

Awesome! I used to have a Sun Conure, but in the midst of my divorce we gave him to some close friends. But, funny you should bring this up; as of this past Friday we picked up a sweet little Green Cheek Conure named "Jack". He's about 9 months and already my cats are trippin'! Harry is the gray kitten that is stuck to the side of the cage. He and Jack are becoming friends, as Harry wouldn't hurt a flea. However, not shown is one of my other cats "Java" (the black b*tch or "meat" as I call her) ... she already jumped out of nowhere and attacked Jack while he was sitting on my fiance's lap; even got a tail feather. Believe me, I slapped the crap out of her ... cat too. :chuckle: Here's pics:

Sorry but I really really really don't like birds. They're loud, stink, and get a kick out of doing bombing runs on people and freshly washed cars.

Looks like target practice to me. I HATE pet birds, blame it on a traumatic incident in my childhood. I had a girlfriend whose dad had a macaw that never left his shoulder. Weird! I rather have a bird than a cat though. Cheers on the new family member.

No stink so far... Kinda messy, but that's because we kinda let him do as he pleases. He's getting a little more "tame" each day. Bex is clearly his favorite, and we're gonna start kicking up his training a little real soon.

Scotty - as an FYI, even incidental cat contact can kill a bird... something to do with their natural bacteria or whatever. At the very least, keep 'em away from his cage... :(

To anyone that thinks birds, cats, dogs (really any animal kept as a pet) are messy: It's all about the 'owner'. I have had birds, cats, dogs, rodents, fish, reptiles, etc. for many, many years. An owner just needs to stay on top of the cleaning and caring of any pet. We have right now 5 cats (put down my 20 year old last year :frown: ), lots of fish (salt and fresh) and Jack. Our friends comment on how our home never has an odor, unless one of the cats lays a fresh one ... or me. :chuckle: And, a Green Cheek Conure is not even half as loud as the Sun Conure (I've had both). In fact, the GCC is adorable in his little chirps, and when he does sqawk it's all but rare and lasts maybe 30 seconds - usually only because he wants attention ... not a problem. :)

And Greg I appreciate the concern. Cat's commonly carry the pasteurella bacteria as part of their natural flora; harmless to them, but yes it can be deadly to a bird through a cat's saliva or from their paws (from licking). I have monitored the behavior of Harry, and he doesn't even let Jack touch him (moving his paws like he's dancing when Jack tries to nip him). I'm going to put a solid top on the cage to further prevent it though.

That would be pronounced "Bonerd," which I think is more amusing than the original.

Had a Quaker Parrot for a year or so, became too loud for my roomates at the time so gave him away. Birds are cool if they can be controlled/trained. And are messy eaters.

Definately get the wings clipped soon, before he flies away.
