well i dont usually post in this forum but i figured you guys would be the only ones who cared. i finally got my engine back in and running from when i started to rebuild it 4 months ago. im a student at a vocational program through my school and im 16. my engine was burning oil a little bit and i figured if i had gone as far as rebuilding the head i might was well of done the whole thing. also i decided i wanted a little bit more power but nothing crazy, so i grabbed up an aem intake, hotshot header, i did a port and polish myself and 3 angle valve jobs. i also bored the engine 40 over. i used pretty much stock replacements for everything because im hoping to go ca18det within a couple years so nothing crazy. and a little word of advice to the people pulling their engines. PULL THE ENGINE AND transmission AT THE SAME TIME!! i thought it was going to be ok to just pull the engine off but damn was i wrong. its easy coming off but going in took a combined total of about 6 and a half hours between trying to get the motor mounts on and the transmission to come together. and after that everything was smooth. until i started adding the coolant. i started to get drips onto the floor. and from my eprsepctive it looked like it was coming from a freeze plug. but i found the leak and it was from a lil spout that goes from the back of the block to the firewall. i must of forgotten to tighten the clamp but after that the problem was solved. and then it wouldnt start because i found out my friend who i asked to time it for me when i had to go back to school had timed it 180 degrees backwards and at tdc instead of 20 degrees before tdc. but after that it turned right over and i decided to see how loud it was and left it open header just for kicks and giggles and man was it loud. it shook the car and everything. i was like a proud parent. pics will be coming soon. i havent gotten around to putting the exhaust on and letting the car run for a while at idle and changing the oil to get all the assembly lube out. so heres the original pics. enjoy

according to FSM... KA is supposed to be timed 20 degrees +-2 degrees BTDC.. basically it means... 20degrees advanced

sideshow: glad to hear it works!but yea.. i just swapped a newer KA in my coupe last week..pull the motor+transmission as a whole.. and put it back in as a whole..to pull it.. you only need 2 peopleto put it back in.. you need 4 people..with 4 people.. it took us 10~15 minutes to put the motor back in place..

white shadow: what you want to do is rotate the crank with a racthet until the pointer is lined up with the last notch on the crank pulley. and then pull off the distrbutor and line up the little electrode on the rotor with the 1st spark plug wire. also make sure the plug wires are in the order of 1st cylinder, 3rd then 2nd and then 4th, hopefully this will solve your problem.

bbandit: yea i wish i had, the hardest part was trying to stretch the motor mounts so that they would fall into the mounts on the engine.

open header/downpipe is the ****!

me and my friend in his NX 2000 rode around... we would creep up next to people walking on the side walk... then floor the gas and watch them jump like 3 feet in the air LOL

fun times!

I'm pretty sure only the KA24DE is suppose to be 20 degrees BTDC, The KA24E is suppose to be 15 degrees BTDC.

ZwhiteshadowZ-sounds like you might be talking about the CAM timing-(the chain and gears)

the others here are talking about IGNITION timing(the distributor)

if you could clarify this maybe we could help you more
