So I replaced the eprom with one I burned at school today, and it started right up!!!! I am so excited now. The only thing out of place now, is that my water pump is making a whirring noise. Its pretty loud. It is brand new though so I find that kind of odd. It has been sitting for a while, but I think the sound may "go away" lol. Now I just need to set the timing, hook up the O2 sensor, bleed the brakes and I can drive it around!

Congratulations Chris . If you used a water pump from the pulsar, then this will continue to happen. But if you used one from a 200sx and it's still making this noise and you're not using a fan clutch, probably just have a bad pump. It's a simple fix, so start investigating and get that puppy on the road.

whirring can't be good.. if its a fwd pump you need a fwd pully, or it will probably blow up.

indeed. fwd pumps w/ RWD pulles DO blow up. mine took out my koyo in the process... after about 5 minutes of idling too. s12 pump works perfectly.

congrats chris!

Congrats on getting it fired up! It's a great feeling to get an engine running that you've poured hours and hours into. Definitely deal with that water pump, wouldn't want to tear anything up!

Its a 200SX RWD pump. The pump is circulating water. After talking to Sean, I think I may have put the timing belt on too tight, so I am going to check that out tomorrow.

I wish I would have read this earlier. I put a brand new water pump on my 200sx that I got from the states and it lasted one trip home. Drove it about 20 kms and then parked it at my garage to install some more parts on. Put all the aftermarket mods on it, finally got the 6 month old project started again and let it run for a couple of minutes. After it warmed up I revved it up pretty hard heard a noise, looked uner the hood and saw that my water pump pulley had pulled itself right off of the water pump. So I had to buy a 200sx specific pump from one of the local German dealers. Tried to save a few bucks by buying one from the states since parts here are a little expensive, that is what I get I guess.

Ok, I am pretty sure its the timing belt. My friend overtightened his on a skyline and it made the same friggen noise. I just loosened it a tiny bit. Heres the thing though, where the lower timing cover meets the upper timing cover, it was bent in and touching the friggen outside edge of the timing belt! I haven't started it back up yet, because I don't want to keep starting a fresh motor without being able to drive it. But I am 99% sure that was the issue. We'll find out tomorrow though.

So if you have a fwd pump, what do I need to make it work, or should i return it to get a rwd pump?

FWD pump needs FWD pulley and an electric fan.

RWD pump needs RWD pulley and you can keep the clutch fan.

I second that. We demand a video...or pics...or maybe a drawing. I could live with that.

Been there and done that as well! For now, just take it off or repair it. Those can be a real PITA as well. I actually modify the hell out of mine so that I don't need to remove the water pump pulley to remove the cover.
