Well ive never had a build thread and always wanted to start one just to see what feedback i get from you guys. I got my vert for jrs240 on the boards here and about 2 weeks after things started going wrong. Im not saying it was his fault at all, im pretty sure it was because it was running rich for so long and always at 16psi. And there was still stock head bolts.. But non the less. The first week i got it i strapped it on the dyno in my tech class and it made 320whp with 331ft lbs tq. Not bad i thought! Now i was ready to get it tunned. I made an appt with Adreneline in STL and sure enough the next day things started going wrong. -headgasket blew-compression low

So it was deffinately time for a rebuild!I was going to tear apart the block and do a complete oem rebuild but wow, almost every bearing was showing copper and the cyl walls were very bad! Waves! So i decided to pitch the old block and order one from Dewey at JDMHookup here in St. Charles. This block has 17xxx miles and the internals look great! Once i got the new block home i used a can of brake parts cleaner and engine degreaser and got it clean.

Then sprayed it down with a can of Aluminum high heat paint. Turned out pretty good!

Today i installed the new cometic head gasket and arp head studs. Also since it was so nice out i gave the car a bath.

Tomarrow i will be putting all the other componets on like ps pump, alternator, etc etc.

OH and ive also added a few more things to my build-To4e twinscroll master power .83/.50 turbo-XS power top mount manifold-XS power wastegate-HKS 264/272 cams

Heres my old setup and then just add what ive gotten for itGT28rsTomei solid liftersTitanium valve springsNew rocker armsGReddy RASthree angle valve jobcometic head gasketARP Head studsngk Iridium spark plugs300zx fuel pumpZ32 Mafk&n Air FilterMegan FPR"Freddy" Oil catch canHuge Front Mount Intercooler Turbonetics MBCturbo xs rfl bovgt spec exhausttest pipeexedy 3 puck clutch(Installed 1000 miles ago)b&m short shifter

Tunning and electronics:Apex-i Power FC stand alone ecuApex-i FC Commander My question is, how much power do you think i will be making with the new turbo and cams? Also have you heard anything good about doing a 264/272 setup?

ive used a commetic in one of my rebuilds after doing alot of reading cosworth seems to be the best hg you can buy also new OEM head bolts would have worked well as mazwork used stock headbolts on there drag cars

Well ive had good luck with cometics in the past so i just went ahead and used that on my sr. Today i didnt have time to get everything on. I had to replace the water pump and i also torqued down the head bolts.

Every story/build I read they are using a cometic and have leak issues, either coolant is leaking out or oil into coolant without actually blowing the HG. It seems as though the SR does not like that HG and responds better to APEXI, Cosworth or similar gaskets.

if i'm not mistaken Mazworx uses 1/2 headstuds. I don't thing the stockers would hold up to the 900-1400 rwhp that there drag cars make!

Well i got my turbo kit today!

NOw im just waiting on my cams

Also today i took the head off again and sprayed down the headgasket with that copper spray. I hope it seals off ok. But im wondering what i should torque the arp head bolts to? Ive heard people going all the way to 105 but then some snap the studs. But im going to try to hit 400 with this build. Let me know what you guys think on what to torque them to!Thanks!

Well its kind of a piece together kit i ordered from a guy on zilvia. It has like 100 miles on it. Its a master power turbo with a xs power mani and wastegate. I will be getting a better mani once i have more money cuz i dont know how good these manifolds are.

4 equivalent steps to 80ftlbs. I went 20-40-60-80, I've never had a problem with tightening them down like that.

I know this is digging up the past but kind of tired of reading the BS.

Sell the car do what your going to do with it but there was nothing wrong with this motor when it was sold to you. Reason the tune was off is because the owner found a intake leak (after maf) less than a week prior to delivery. He did not inform me so the car was not re tuned when the leak was fix. Which alas made the car run rich. It ran like this for only a day (delivery day). Also 16 psi on this motor is nothing so dont act like that blew it up.

The owner of this vehicle before jrs240 rebuilt the motor go complain to him. We just fixed his screw ups with the head.

The car still put down 330 on a mustang dyno with 9:1 A/F lol on a GT28RS @ 16 psi.

Then all of a sudden you come out and say the cars broken its your fault but come to find out YOU messed with the Power FC and initialized the tune (aka cleared it).

You said rings were bad, bearings bad, but the motor made no noise or show any sign of this when the previous owner had it. Didnt smoke, didnt over heat, knock readings hardly ever went above 20 (60 is signs of problems).

How about you take some responsibility for whatyou did and stop trying to blame other people and make them look bad.

Also your kind of an idiot to sell a GT28RS which would have made 400 whp on pump gas and buying a crappy T04 with ebay waste gate and manifold... When that waste gate blows apart he'll blame the seller for it probably.

Also our other friend with my tune is running 22 psi daily driven on a completely stock internal RB (even head gasket and head bolts) from a GT3076 and no problems for over a year....

I don't know what crack youre smoking, but a GT28RS will never make 400whp on pump gas on an SR... Sorry to bust your boost bubble, but you need to do some research before making idiotic claims like that. I don't know what the other squawking was about, but I had to chime in for quoted material above...

Nice build BTW OP...

Ooo sorry i forgot you worked on the car and tuned it.... O wait no you didnt.

The car already had 264 stage 2 HKS cams in it so i dont know why the cams were being replaced.

It made 330 whp on a mustang dyno with a tune that was all messed up because the previous owner didnt tell me it had a leak past the MAF on the inatke. So 9:1 A/F on 16 psi..... Yea it would never make 400 whp. If you put this same car on a Dyno Jet it would make another 30 whp due to the difference in the dynos. So lets see another 4 psi of boost and a retune. Yea 400 not even in the question... STFU
