So I was at the "self-serve" and I spotted two 620's and two 521's. One of the 620's had the later grill and (longer) transmission. I shifted through and it felt like there was 5, (there didn't seem to be an "extra" movement for reverse, and it had a 5-speed shift knob).
Just swapped the "lowrider" wheels on the 620 and  the monkey-motion isn't cuttin' it anymore on the freeway  (two slow!).  So I pulled it out!

Finally got it all swapped in and... What the   ?????

No Reverse!! (thank goodness these babies are so light and I was able to push it out!)
And after a scoot around the block, low and behold, NO 5TH GEAR either!

So the other trucks in the yard clearly do have 4 speeds, but there's a datsun "honeybee" (I think? B210 or something? I want to say '79) and it claims to have a 5 spd, but it's not linked to an L-series motor...? I recall reading/hearing that this trans will work on an L-series motor however...?
Yes no? No yes?

Lol, oh, if anyone wants to trade ONE 5 speed for two 4 speeds, I'm your man ("dreamer")!
