as of tuesday (jan 11th) I started to rip apart my new 240sx. the sr is almost ready to go in and the ka has one more day of work before it comes out. I'm working hard and going to school so the car is 3rd on my priority list right now. as soon as the weekend hits I'll be getting that ka out and the sr will be goin in. more to come, keep this thread alive cause pictures are sure to come and maybe some video.

Don't worry... I'm right there with you. College student w/o any money and trying to get my 240 to the point where it will pass inspection... (my exhaust is basically shot and shouldn't pass inspection... at least I wouldn't pass it)... I'm trying to get together some money to start and gather some turbo pats for the KA.... that'll be an even slower process with me being is college... oh well... Good luck to all of your endevors!

well the ka came out today. I'm trying to get some pictures of it, the engine is already sold so don't ask. I have some prep work to do on the sr again before I can install it. I'm making my own intercooler piping and ordering a generic intercooler off ebay. I'll upgrade later on. The wiring is going to be sent to either phase 2 or titan motorsports. I should have that done in about 3 weeks. in the meantime i'm having trouble getting the shift knob off of the ka transmission. hopefully it will come off easier today. work begins on installing clutch and flywheel on the sr today, aswell as a new rear main seal. total time spent on project so far = 12 man hours. pictures and more details to come. peaceZepp

Good luck seems like you made a bit of progress with getting the old motor out. Its always the little things that get you, thats when it starts to add up. The S14 looks very nice too.

How do you know how to just swap an engine out for an SR20? Are you a mechanic or are there manuals for this specific swap, I tried researching how to change the Clutch Master and Slave cylinder and I can't even find info on that for 240sx's. I don't get how everybody just does the swap themselves, where do you acquire this knowledge?

To some extent it is about learning from others and helping others out... And also getting a factory service manual really helps things along (at least for doing things that a Nissan mechanic would do.. such as changing the clutch master and slave cylinder) the only downside that I've seen is it shows you how it all is put together, but doesn't really have any 'step-by-step' stuff... so for that you just have to know your way around things.... as for doing an sr swap yourself... learning from others and not being afriad to ask others when you encounter a problem (now I personally haven't swapped an sr... I have done a lot to my own car as far as repairing and replacing factory parts... and I am attempting to gather the parts together to eventually turbo charge my 240.... but that will be a while)

I hope that this helps you in some way or another...

I'm no mechanic, but I am sort of mechanically inclined, if that makes sense. I am not changing out any master or slave cylinder, I am using the one that came with my 240sx. I simply unbolted my slave cylinder from the KA transmission and am bolting it to my SR. There are a lot of things that you just have to look at in terms of removal. The easy part is done: removing the KA. the hard part is installing a completely different setup engine. Lots of wiring, Lots of vacuum lines to deal with. Bolts are bolts, if you see how it goes together, you can see how it will come apart. I personally have two friends who went to mechanic school, one to UTI (university technical institute of houston) and CCTT (capitol city trade and technical in austin). They didn't do much more than I did, just unbolting, draining fluids, and removing vacuum lines. knowing where they go requires mechanical skills or at least a manual, and for that matter ebay for 40.00 bucks ain't bad. So as for now I am waiting on the rear main seal to arrive, then I'll install it, the flywheel, and clutch, and procede to install the SR. the wiring I am sending to P2M to get that completely done. otherwise, I'dd be up **** creek without a paddle. anyways. I'll get some pictures up sooner or later. Peace.

Alrighty. so I got my 3" intercooler piping, now I'm waiting on my exhaust piping, high flow cat, and exhaust tip. I need to get some flywheel bolts and install the clutch. My engine is almost ready to go in. I must figure out how to get the KA wiring harness off the car, and send it into Phase2. when that happens, it will go in and be ready to go. anybody have any diagrams or suggestions on how to get that harness off??? took off my dash but I'm still having trouble. anybody?? updates and pictures on the way.Zepp

there should be a bolt on the ecu and just unplug it and two bolts that hold a rubber thing in place in the firewall, after that its just unpluging everything that takes so long.

I'm not retarded, I just can't tell which end of the harness leads to where, because there is a blower motor, vent system, and other **** in my way, so I don't know where to look for harness plugs. I don't feel like detaching everything in the dash harness cause if I find the main plugs, then I have to reattach everything I unpluged, which = gheyness. Anyways. pictures are on my digital camera, I can't upload them for some reason, I think its running low on batteries. thats most likely the problem, but I'll get them up as soon as possible. thanks for reply,Zepp

harness was sent to P2M yesterday, I bought some nissan "high quality" flywheel bolts, they arrive wednesday. I put in my rear main seal, but I wanted to have a look at it because may be in there but I'm not sure if its in to far or what. looks as though it sits back in the housing, so I'm gonna remove the housing and install it outside of the engine. When this happens, I'll install the flywheel, clutch, and transmission, then it will be ready to install, and when the harness gets back, it will go on and I'll see if she runs. I'm having trouble locating some vacuum diagrams. If anybody has info on those let me know please. thanksZepp

Quick support for the college guys. I am on my last year of Engineering school, and I am pretty tapped out. I already got one interview for a part-time job programming custom A/V systems (didn't get it but I tried).

good luck mang!update: Flywheel installed, need to figure out where to get bolts for my clutch, and hmmm.... I think thats about it. I need to install the clutch and then I'll be ready to install the engine. I'm gonna try to get to auto zone or pep boys in the next couple of days to get some vacuum lines, I have the full s14 sr20det FSM now so I can look up whatever I need, then install won't be to bad. I'll definitely get some video of the first start up.... hopefully that will be soon..... peace

hey guys, I know its been awhile, but I finally did it. The sr was finished about feb. 20th, I think thats the first time I drove it. since then its been running great and i haven't had a single problem with the car. If anybody is interested in seeing pictures of the setup please let me know, I can post em up. right now I got the stock sidemount intercooler on there and its running really well. As soon as june comes around I am going to install a FMIC, fuel pump, boost controller and some other misc. stuff that will make it possible to run 1 bar on my setup. So far I have broken the car in, given it 2 oil changes and its been doing great. I'll post pics later.Zepp
