Hi all i know i haven't introduced myself yet, but i have an issue...obviously. After searching the forums and trying everything i could find, i noticed that very few of the starter issues were on automatics. I have tried whacking it, using a portable jumper - fully charged, tried starting in park and neutral, tried jackhammering the key (used to work all the time on my old honda). I myself don't have the means to remove the starter. Is there anything that i haven't checked yet?

tried it...got this nifty little tool that cleans and grinds out the deposits and stuff on the battery terminals and connections.

Use a screwdriver and arc the positive and negative on the starter. Had to start my old 240Z like that for a couple months.

Put the key on run, car in park. The little cylinder on the starter with wires going to it, touch the driver to the metal posts. Might scare the crap out of you the first time, so dont hit your head on the hood.

Yeah, I would think the whirring sound is the pinion gear just freewheeling in there. Sounds like its time for a starter.
