Installed Kenwood works great, everything.

Decided to purchase the back up camera. The directions that come with the camera are less than desirable.Got camera mounted and ran cable back to HU.Ran purple/whit strip wire to back up light and attached.

Now at the HU side of the BOYO wire there is the obviously the composite wire and the red (+) and the ground (-). BOYO says in broken english (e-mail). Attach camera to back up lamp and ground. Here in lies my question.

Can I attach the (+) from the BOYO camera to the purple/white stripe from the Kenwood. This wire does go back to the back up light and then attach the other wire (Black) to ground at the HU side?

It would have made more sense if BOYO had made it possible to connect the power to the camera at the rear of the vehicle not at the head unit.

Does any of this make sense?

Help? AppleBonker or rjdmmfl1? Anyone?

In theory you could do this, but I wouldn't recommend it (it taxes the circuit for the brake lamp). Also, if you connect to an always on or ACC on source, you can use the camera while driving forward! To avoid draining the battery, I would recommend using an ACC on source (probably the red wire near the HU). You should be able to tap the ground into the HU ground or any metal portion of the car.

1st, as usual, what applebonker said is 100% correct. The best way to hook this up is *** the directions stated! AGain, as previously explained, by hooking the unit up to an ACC on source, you can look behind you while driving forward. THis helps in situation of towing (not likely for our vehicles) when you want to keep an eye on the tailgate.

Also, the RCA power/ground is on the same wire as the RCA, and since you have to run the RCA up front anyway to connect to the rear view camera input on the kenwood, it only makes sense to run the power/ground up there along with it, and just splice the power/ground to the power ground for your headunit!

Although I will say I hate how small those power/ground wires are on the Boyo camera... they're like 26 gague or something!

Ha! I completely forgot about that. I actually soldered mine to some 18 AWG wire and then threw some shrink wrap over the soldered connection to protect it. Made it a ton easier to splice into power...

Totally got it working! What I did...

1. Ran Purple/white to rear lamp red/gray (Splice).2. Ran BOYO cable to the rear of HU.3. Soldered the ground (black) to a piece of patch cable 16 ga. Then twisted the end of the ground wire to that of my green parking break sensor wire, threw on an grouding ring terminal and ground that to the frame.4. As stated in the directions, I tapped (splice) my power from the purple/white Kenwood wire (Reverse Wire) wich is getting power from the rear lamp.

I don't know what my problem was. As I re secured all of my connections.

a. bad groundb. bad connection to the (+) lamp leadc. bad connection to the BOYO plug near the HU.d. Temperature! It was very cold when I was trying to get this to work. Below zero.

In the end something I did during the wire connection verification process worked as it works like a charm now.

depending on how you grounded it the first wire, it could have been a bad connection with that thin aZZ 30 gauge wire boyo provides.. in any case, I'm still not too sure why you connected the red power wire to the reverse lead wire instead of just splicing that to the red power wire for your head unit... but oh well, as long as ur happy i guess
