I'm looking to swap an sr20det into my 92 convertible, but if i get a running sr out of an 89 or 90 240sx that originally had a sohc ka will i run into wiring problems?

Like i heard the early year sohc 240s are completely different and when swapping an sr in you have to do all this other stuff. So if the sr is already swapped and running in the early sohc 240 then it won't be a plug and play operation if i were to swap it to my 92 dohc convertible will it?

all 89-90 240sx's were originally sohc engines. When you have a 89-90 240sx the only thing different that you have to do is swap your gauge cluster to a dohc gauge cluster from a dohc s13. and you dont even need to do this, this is not a must it is only if you want those gauges to work.

yes thats basically all you hav to do and if you want ps ull have to get the dohc ps lines. luckily i got mines from a junkyard for $100 compared to what people sell it for.

If your pulling an SR20 out of a 89-90 240sx, then it'll drop right in to your 92. If the 89-90 SR 240 had power steering, they most likely got it from a 91-94 DOHC model. If it doesnt have power steering then you'll need to get one ^^^.

well wait a minute. If the doner car i'm getting the motor from doesn't have power steering, wont i be able to get it to work because my car (the 92) came with a dohc? and has the correct useable lines?

Also are you guys saying that to make the gauges work in an 89-90 car you have to completely swap gauge clusters with a later year? you cant just redo the wiring and all that junk?

Yes if the doner car doesnt have power steering, then you CAN use your DOHC power steering off your vert...IF the power steering pump wasnt removed from the doner SR. If it was, you can use your KA DOHC pump, but i think you need the SR pulley or was it the bracket...I'd Search for that info.

I replaced my SOHC cluster with a DOHC one. I suggest you do the same. You should be able to find one for pretty cheap.

im 100% sure he can find one for free of charge ....because he's already got one . so if you go ahead and drop the sr into your dohc body then you have nothing to worry about my friend

you have to swap the interior plug with the one from your ka harness, sohc are male plugs and dohc plugs are female
