I have recently rebuilt my ka24e. The car had set up for 2 years before rebuild. Intake was cleaned but not a lot else done to it.Bored, Rings, Pistons, Mains, Rods, crank turned, Rebuilt head from Cylinder Head Services with Cam. On first start up I had to turn dist all the way clockwise to get it to run well, and even then it runs with no power. Cranks good. Rough Idle. The engine idles up and down all the time. Timing chain and dist were set up as per Nissan manual. I rechecked positions and it looks like it should as per other discriptions in this forum. Cam notch at 12 O Clock with #1 at TDC on compression. Distributor at 4:30. Any suggestions ?

if you have to turn it all the way clockwise (advancing) for it even to run your oil pump/distributor are off a tooth. because the distributor cannot move independetly from the oil pump you have to move the tooth for the oil pump drive. good thing to check your oil pump and/or take it apart and inspect while its off. check your timing with a standard timing light, you should be able to get it to 15btc at least (stock spec) and still be able to advance further.

Battery may be low. I'll charge for a while tonight. All gaskets are new.All vac hoses are new. They were replaced one at a time going back to their oridional locations. The Oil pump is new also and seems to be working well.I will try backing up a tooth with it to see what happens. One other question.... I have seen some postings that say Cam notch should be parallel with head and others say 12:00 Oclock.Since the motor is at a tilt in the car, this would indicate 1 or 2 notches difference in the two suggestions ?????? I would think the setting would be in relation to the head ?????

the cam pin should be at 12o'clock in relation to the head. top or bottom of head doesnt matter. the engine does sit slighty tilted in the car, disregard that
