Hey everyone,

I own a 1997 Maxima and today I was trying to change the rear brake discs and pads, and when I tried to push the cylinder back with a c-clamp...it wouldn't go back enough for the disc to slide in between the two pads. Is there a way the cylinder can be replaced? Or so I have to buy a new caliper all together??

Thanks

Not 100% sure on a '97, but on most newer models the piston must be screwed in, not pushed in like on the front. It's because of the parking brake.

I posted a detailed procedure on how to do R&R of the pads and rotors a few days ago. Had you done a SEARCH, it should have popped up immediately. I'm not sure if your rear brake piston had been damaged by forcing it in with a C-clamp.

Here's the link to the procedure.
