Has anyone else had any problems with their Nissan dealership? I bought my Rogue on March 13, 2010. My temp tag is good until 5/10/2010. Nothing was discussed about license plate at time of purchase, so I just assumed it would be sent to me, along with registration, when it came in.

Well, it's 5/6/2010 today and still no plate or registration. My father-in-law who purchased a Chevy Equinox on the same day as me from a Chevy dealer received his plate and registration almost 3 weeks ago.

So, I called the dealer this morning. They said they had it, but wouldn't mail out locally and that I had to come pick it up. Well I work until 9pm most nights, so I'd have to go over there before work to get it. This actually would be quite a hassle, so I asked if they could please just send it to me. They were adamant that they could not. I finally asked for a manager and told him that I was busy and could not make it over there. I went on to say that I spent over $20k on a car from them, the least they could do was spend a buck or two to send the plate to me in the mail and save me the inconvenience. He finally agreed with me, and said they would mail it out.

I don't get the problem with mailing it(every other car I've had has always had the plate and registration mailed to me and so have my friends).

Other than this problem, which really pissed me off this morning, i find that I'm getting a lot of phone calls from "Nissan" CSR's supposedly offering to sell me the extended warranty, which I ALREADY bought at time of purchase!! Also getting a lot of emails from "Nissan" supposedly, telling me about some 123 program or something like that. I don't know if this dealership sold my info to some 3rd parties or what, but I'm really getting a bad feeling about using them and I haven't even been in for my first free oil change yet!

Are all Nissan dealerships like this?

Absolutely not, my dealer is absolutely amazing and I could go on all day with examples but I won't. In short, they have done and will continue to do all of my service and I will use their sales department for future purchases if I can and recommend them to friends.

However, dealers are independantly owned and you'll get a ton of variability, that's why if and when you find a good dealership try to hang on to it, and if your sucks I'd avoid it whenever possible. All dealers will be different, don't assume because they all have the "Nissan" logo that they are the same.

Well here is my opinion. We get 30 day tags, so as long as you get the tags before the temps expire, I find it okay. As for me, I hate temp tags and I re-stuck my OLD tags because I don't like my car looking newly purchased. I always find that a new car with tags is a accident magnet. Just my personal superstition. :ohno:

Anyways, I got a call a couple of weeks later to pick my tags at the dealer. I don't remember the exact time but it was a reasonable amount. :chuckle:

As for the dealer ending up mailing the tags to you. At least they worked with you and that's what communication does and I'm sure people in managment use common sense and wanna please their customers. :bigthumb:

Lastly, on the 123 Nissan stuff. I know that is connected to Nissan. I don't remember if it's for the car service or accessories dept, or their marketing dept where they involved in finding you a Nissan. But I do remember something vaguely about the 123 Nissan stuff. It's connected to our Nissan Experience for being a customer I believe.

Welcome to our spam-filled reality, but I get general all-in-one generated thank you letters from nissan. Get stuff in email and real mail.

I mean get use to it, we get this crap or info even in our text messages in our cell phones. :spam: Been getting alot from AT & T and Virgin Mobile. Most of time I just ignore it.

Don't start thinking I am defending dealerships here, I am just as skeptical with dealerships and mechanics as they come. I even took my dealership to court because I felt they damaged my Nissan Maxima back in the day. I complained with them to the BBB, which I found the BBB is really paid by the businesses to be in their back pocket. SO BBB is really a joke!

So I also complained about my experience online and their lawyer told me to retract what I said about my vehicles repair or they sue me for defamation. So I retracted it on advice from my family's lawyer. The site does not take the complaints down but they will show your retraction. The dealer was bought by another owner. And no I didn't buy my Rogue there but I still would of is they had the color I wanted. I went alone in court against their high price lawyer and lost. But they did have to pay the lawyer which was problably more than the repair. Brought the service manager in, team leader, mechanic who didnt show up into court. Long story short. Took it fo a oil leak and they gave it back to me with a new leak and also told me that the original oil leak was not fixed as they said. I know confusing. :tisk:

So if I thought you had issues with your dealership. I would definitely tell you. Personally I think they didn't do anything wrong. Don't stress yourself over little or nothing. Just keep enjoying your Rogue.

And third party info? You can never avoid that but in this case its all Nissan related junk with the dealership. :spitout:

Hmmm, this is not something we normally experience in Ontario, Canada. Typically the dealer arranges vehicle registration and if properly done, hands everything to you at time of delivery:

- Vehicle registration paperwork
- License Plate affixed to vehicle
- 1 yr plate permit/sticker.

I have bought 2 brand new Nissan's and each time the dealer took care of everything. I just showed up and picked up the vehicle. Never had to wait for registration to arrive via mail, etc.

Nope. Not in my experience.

As mentioned above, Nissan doesn't own the dealerships. Most auto makers don't so the rest of my comments apply pretty much to all makes. It's very easy to have very different experiences depending on the specific dealership(s) you visit. +1 for the if you find a good dealership stick with them comment.

I actually drive 20 miles to the Honda dealership for my other car. That's despite the fact that there are 4 other Honda dealerships closer to my home. That's because this particular dealership has the best service ratings and awards and it definitely shows based on my experience.

Again, don't assume that all dealers for the same make are the same.

Where I live the dealer just sticks a pink piece of paper in the back window and you have a week to go to the DMV and get your own license plates, registration, and stickers. The DMV is only open from 8 to 5 (normal working hours) 5 days per week. So you either have to fight the crowd at lunch, or take a couple hours vacation time to run over and get the tags. I would like if the dealer would get all that for you and have it at the dealership for you to pickup after 5 or on Saturday.

The DMV has actually changed for the better past couple of years. The days of spending hours at my area DMV's is over. They have implemented a numbering system where you grab a ticket and they call you up to a line. They also implemented lighted signs to tell you which one to go to.

Even if the line snakes out the door, the usual wait is 20 minutes. I brought my mom once to the DMV and she was surprised how fast it was. Times have changed at the DMV for the better I must say. Thank goodness for improvement in that gov't sector.
