Post

I have a 6MT and its run about 1500 miles now. Last weekend I drove to a friends place, 30 miles on the turnpike, and then local roads, picked her up, and planned to drive another 1 mile to another friends house.. and the car started knocking, really badly! It was shaking, loosing power and jerking us front and back.

I finally did make it to my friends house. That's when I noticed that the engine was revving between 700 - 1200 rmps while in neutral, and with me standing outside of the car!!! I turned it off, gave it 15 minutes, and then drove around for about 5 miles to see if that problem returned.. and its now been one long weekend and about 100 miles of driving and its running like a dream.

I am stumped. At first glance it seems similar to this post: zerothread/281390 .. but am thinking this could be something to do with the VVEL / ETC - i.e. the ECM.

Any ideas / suggestions are really appreciated!

It sounds like a bad throttle position sensor

Couple things to try...

Check to make sure that no hoses have come disconnected from the intakes.

Disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. This will normally reset the ecus on most cars. Worth a shot.

Again, new to g37s so your guess is as good as mine but those 2 things are general troubleshooting ideas.
