I'm done scratching my brain. Need some experience here. I changed out a 97 J30 engine for a 96 with no problems. 1200 miles later the engine failed. Not to worry to much, the engine (from salvage) was under warranty. The replacement engine however is a 95..... I had to change over the throttle body for the tps to work.
Engine starts and idles fine but I do not have good acceleration. There are two plugs that are two pin connectors that go to the back of the engine that the 97 wiring harness does not accommodate.

Anyone else with a similar experience??

I have a slight feeling one of those two wires you are referring to might be the knock sensor. I just recently had to replace(relocate) the knock sensor in my 95. the reference pictures i was seeing online from people who have done this were all '97s. you might wanna try to figure out which wire on ur car is for the KS, and try using a 1 Megohm resistor(i think thats the one i used), or maybe even like 500K ohm resistor i think is what people use. my car had the acceleration issue, then after putting a resistor in place to test, my car had so much more kick then it had in the 2 months prior to that.

hope i could be of some help.... might also wanna try cross referencing a 97 and 95 FSM if all else fails. they're not 100%, but its something official.. lol

'93 O2 and KS sensor connectors are identical/interchangeable. Pulled any codes? After I pulled and replaced the plenum on my J30, the first code I had was for an unconnected EGR valve. The KS code didn't appear until after I fixed the EGR code.

Even though there were multiple things wrong (disconnected EGR, KS and O2 sensor connectors switched), the ECM would only display one of them at a time and I don't know what determined the priority.

Don't know if the ECMs are fully interchangeable.

I saw the post your talking about and repositioned the KS to the same place. I just used the old KS, and wires from the 97 engine. I was getting the 0325 code but that is gone now since i repositioned it. No improvement. The engine is just not accelerating properly. It has a new fuel pump, filter, MAF, etc. I had to use the throttle body from the 97 in order to use the TPS wiring from the 97. It starts right up, idles fine but the air fuel mix seems to be too lean. I can floor it and it doesnot accellerate while in gear. I took it around the block floored and got up to 35..... no backfire.
Is there a difference in the timing from 95-97? Mabe it is retarded and needs to be advanced??

sounds like your tps level could be off. i noticed a hesitation when i was adjusting a newer one on my car. try this link and see if it helps in adjusting/measuring levels.
