Post

So a couple months ago, I purchased a 4-key keyless remote (has the unlock, lock, panic, and rear glass pop) for my 93 Pathy. I followed the instructions given and it seems that the remote and Pathy communicate when they are in programming mode, but when the mode is back to normal, the remote does not work.

I looked up other instructions and every instruction list was the same to the one I got, so I know it's the correct set.

By "communicating" I mean that when the Pathy is in the program mode and beeping (waiting to accept new remotes) when I hit the "lock" button the Pathy makes a different, higher pitched tone indicating that the two are communicating. Once that happens, I end the programming and test it. No luck. Truck does have a security system (the switch is below the console, next to the parking brake). The light is constantly blinking, about once every 2 seconds I believe. The switch can be in On or Off and it wont stop blinking. Also, when I bought the truck, the locking switch on the driver door never worked (the window buttons do). I went to a junkyard and got a new one, which worked for about 2 weeks until it too stopped working (windows still working). I might also add that whenever I go to manually lock my doors (by just pushing the knob down) I hear a faint click or pop coming from the rear tailgate area, if that makes any help.

Obviously, having auto locks like that are not required for me, but it'd be nice to have so that I'm not having to unlock everyone's door.

Any help would be great. I'm pretty handy with fixing things, but so far as electrical stuff goes, I'll need some things simplified.

This thread on NPORA might help.

Welcome to NICO. I would suggest that you register and frequent NPORA since you have a WD21 Pathfinder. Few of us have WD21s on this specific board, so you'll find better advice and information there about your Pathfinder. I'm a member there too. :)

Thank you! I also saw your other post in another thread.. I've only changed the oil 3 times and changed it at 3,500, 4,000, and 5,000 miles. I just did that because I didn't know how the oil would be with the engine (would it burn, leak, etc). I may go back to a high mileage oil at some point, but I like Synthetic for when I need to go storm chasing. I'm a true stickler to the 3,000 mile oil change rule.. I just can't get over that. I know with regular oils, you can go 5k, but I just don't trust it since my Chrysler Concorde blew up twice due to oil sludge (although that seems to be a problem only relating to Chrysler).

One more question you may be able to answer... how do you feel about sea foaming the VG30E with my current mileage (137k)? Personally I think it runs fine, but if there's any way that I can keep this thing running well for a while, that'd be great. Other than letting off the gas pedal, I need to find some other ideas on how to increase MPG. Going from 32 MPG in the Mazda and 400 miles per tank (14 gallon tank) to 15.5 MPG, ~300 miles per tank on a 20 gallon tank.. hurts the wallet pretty badly!

Seafoam is garbage, solvents have no place in your engine oil. As for induction cleaning if you feel compelled to do it, use hot water instead as it'll be just as effective (if not more) and it's free. But if I were in your place I would just clean the throttle body and then leave it alone.
