Hey Ryan, do you have a list of 5 speed manual trannies that will bolt up to the CA18DET? If you do, do I need to be "year-specific" or do they all pretty much bolt up with no trouble?

If there are different trannies, which is the most preferred? Reason I ask is, I am entertaining the thought of looking into making that Fiero AWD. I know it could be done, all it takes is money, finding the right parts, and a helluva lot of luck.

Just curious to see if I can still utilize the CA or if I'll have to switch to a Subaru power and driveline to accomplish this. If I do, then I'll most likely just stick with RWD and get this right first before I go attempting the insane. :-)

Oh yeah, what is the class number on the manual transmission? I know the Auto is something like "GA16" or something...

You may be in luck. The CA actually came in AWD. I would contact Pulsar GTR on this board. He may have access to one.

Chris nailed it. I assume you're wanting to use a FWD style AWD layout? It was available in the CA that way and would be the simplest route.

If you're talking about a RWD style transmission any S13/S12 transmission should work as long as it was designed to bolt up to a CA series block. The S12 trannies bell housing are shorter (from what I hear) and you may have to cut the shifter hole out a little to get it to work. I'm not sure about driveshaft length.

The S12 bell is the same length, it's the rear section that is shorter. The S13/S14 trans is longer than the S12's.

If you are going AWD, you definitley want to consider the AWD of a pulsar gtir as it is plug and play, I might have access to one. Let me know if you are still interested and if you can't find one localy.

Thanks,

unless you put the motor in the front its not going to work. the driveshaft going to the rear wheels comes off the transmission towards the back of the car. And if you're thinking of putting the motor in backwards, you would have 5 reverse gears and 1 forward gear. Same reason you don't see any AWD mr2's. Its not because the 3SGTE doesn't come AWD. Its because you can't make it work without a custom gearbox.

and GA16 is another nissan motor. Just like a CA18. or SR20. its actually a GA16DE. It doesn't mean auto transmission. Most if not all of the GA16's probably CAME with auto trannies, but thats not the name of the transmission.
