Is the steering rack part to be used as per the bulletin the same part that is currently in my 2009 M35X or a redesigned steering rack. Thank you for your reports on this issue, the constant steering correction, vibration, needed at highway speed was ruining my ownership experience. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Remember it could also be tramlining from your OEM tires if they are Goodyear RSA's. If so get your dealer to replace them.

Depending on the VIN range of your M (some 2009 models apply) and symptoms you are experiencing your car may be eligible.

You mentioned a highway speed vibration? Could you please elaborate?

The steering rack update is for the resolution of one issue. The primary issue is the groan on turning some M35x and EX35 owners have been experiencing. There are no major report (to the best of my knowledge) of highway vibrations. That is not to say that there are not some owners that are experiencing leading on some highway surfaces. This is usually resolved with different tires, see the tire review thread.

Depending on the route your routinely drive an alignment and tire pressure check may be in order. If you are withing the initial 12mo/12k mi adjustments warranty there will be no charge for the alignment as part of your basic warranty.

My 08 M35x had really bad tramlining (inability to go in a straight line....followed ruts in road and jumped around when braking, etc). I read a few posts here and elsewhere and went back to the dealer at 3000 miles and asked for new tires. As a result of some research I asked if they would put on Michelin Primacy tires. They did it with no questions asked. Almost seems like they knew there would be a problem. With the new tires the car still handles great and the tramlining is about 80% eliminated. Also, FYI the tire grade for the Goodyears (OEM) was 280 while the new Michelin is up to 600, so they should last a little longer.Hope it helps.

Thank you for the excellent advice. New Michelin Primacy tires, a 4 wheel alignment, and the ISB part will all be taken care of next week.
