Hey guy's i had my 91 up today changing my wheels tires (My Christmas present to myself! 18's now looks much better!) anyway i noticed it looked like my drivers side outer frame rail paint was peeling, well i grab the piece of so called paint and pull and it musta been the undercoating because about a 7 inch chunk of it came off and it was very rusty underneath with rust holes. The rest of the car is perfect never seen such a clean rust free car (for Indiana anyway) but i was looking at the master cylinder and it looks as if it was leaking and the brake fluid ran down the firewall and down the outside of the framerail and "ate" away at the undercoating and allowed moisture in. It is just at the point where i can cut the old spot welds out and weld in a new piece of metal in there, i have a set of springs i have to put on the car so when it is all apart i will get to it! plus the front end of the car comes off next month so i can weld in the 99-up S15 core support for the Silvia conversion, (plus i ordered a HOK paint colors book so i can see if i wanna go HOK paint on the car, Im digging Oriental blue though!) Peace out, my rant is DONE!

Brake fluid can eat away at metal. Happened before in my old 240. The area the MC was connected to was developing a small hole, because I had a leak around there (the lines weren't tightened enough).

We use to have a 80' something Pathfinder and it rusted out rather quickly. My dad hasnt been very keen on Nissans ever since.

It happens because of the rapid heating. If there is any snow there is salt too. The exhuast heat up the snow caked up there. It happens and thats the most common place. I live in Indiana too. I had that problem on my last 240 I owned. When I went looking for my current one I made sure it wasn't like that. For a long term fix you might be able to have a frame place cut off the effected part and weld some new metal in. For a short term fix you can make up some braces that can be welded over the rust that fits over the frame rail.

Short term fix

yeah like i said im not to worried about it because im pretty good at fabricating and using my Lincoln MIG welder. but yeah that Master cylinder will have to be fixed, the other passenger side frame rail was clean no rust it was just because of that darn Brake fluid, No worries it will be fixed prolly next week (im gying to get my springs on the car just doesent look right with the 18's on stock ride height! sorry bout the crappy pic! took it last night when i was putting up my Spray booth
