Hi, Everyone!

I would appreciate if anybody can provide me with some information on how to determine where particular Versa has been built.

I know that they started making them in Japan, but then moved production to Mexico.

What can serve as a proof that it is from one place or another? VIN? Date of manufacturing?

Regards,Al

Nissan Mexicana's Civac manufacturing plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico, is to start manufacturing and exporting Nissan Versa cars to the US in the spring, becoming the second North American production source for the popular subcompact vehicles.

Production of Versas, a version of which is called Tiida in other global markets, begins in Cuernavaca in March on the plant's new flexible production line. Export begins in April. The additional production at the plant will result in the addition of about 1,500 jobs, bringing total plant employment to nearly 3,500 people.

Versas are currently produced at Nissan Mexicana's other assembly plant in Aguascalientes.

If the VIN starts with a J, it's made in Japan, if it starts with a 1 it's made in America and if it starts with a 3 it's made in Mexico. The Versas should all start with a 3.

Versas are manufactured in Mexico. It is designed in Japan. Much like Toyota has manufacturing plants here, which does provide jobs, and lets them sneak into nascar.

On a side note, VW has the same system. WVW = Germany, 3VW = Mexico, and 1VW= American made. I think the parallel is interesting.

Here's how to read Nissan's VIN. I found this link last year while I had my car on order. It's a little outdated and doesn't have some of the options for the V listed, but interesting nevertheless.
