Would this be okay? the voltage of the the battery while the car is running is lower than before.. is this because the single cam alternator isn't as powerfull as the dual cam?

i have been running the SOHC alt for about 4 years... hasn't given me a problem. The specs shoud be the same so i dont see why it would affect your car unless you have a defective one (that is if you bought it new.)

Not if it bolts on.

EDIT: Your regulator may be bad/failing or you could have a weak battery. The alternator will take the 12v and create a magnetic field. The strength of the input affects the strength of the field, this is where the regulator comes in. By controlling the strength of the field, you control the output. If the battery is already weak, then you may have replaced the Alt thinking it was the problem when it was the battery all along. Best to take all of the parts to AZ or Advance and have them checked.
