I recently checked ECU and realized that my O2 sensor went dead.So went to Autozone and was gonna buy the universal o2 sensor as the FAQ recommanded. However the autozone guy told me universal one is not good due to wider band of sensor input which can confuse the ecu. He kept telling me to buy the OE.

I am confused here. Does any know any more about this?

Just get the one from our sponsor sparkplugs.com and you'll be safe, hehe.

As long as it's the NGK one, you will be fine. The only difference, I believe, is that for the universal one, you have to cut the connector off your old one and put it on the new one. That's what I'm doing w/ mine.

The o2 sensors in our car are analog, no "wider band" really, it's "lean, rich, stoich".

No offense to the autozone guy, as he "may" be right... but when was the last time employees at autozone actually knew more about cars than just entering a part #?

its not that much more anyway, like $10 iirc... for the OE vs. the univ.

You are right. We cruise sideways with analog machine, not the digital bravados... Totally forgot about that.

Well some of the autozone guys go to vocational school where they learn nothing but which make them feel like they know a lot more than any one else in their stores.

cheap o2 sensors are worse than none at all. they will fail in short order. believe me i have gone behind many of my techs and ripped em a new one for putting those on. get the ntk sensor.
