Is Tire chains dangerous ?

Just a quick question about tire chains for 1999 Pathfinder with open diffs.In the owner manual it is clearly written that you can only put chains on the back tires.

But everybody who is doing offroad in the snow claims that the best is to put chains on the back AND on the front.

Can I do it ?Is it true that putting tire chains on the front two wheels can cause a lot of damage to the differential, if only driven on maybe 5-10 miles at very low speed?And I don’t talk about driving on asphalt covered in snow, I talk about dirt road covered with a lot of soft snow 15-30 inches.

snow chains are most effective when placed on all 4 wheels, or at least that is what I remember the last time I used them.

With chains on, I wouldn't drive faster than 30mph or even 25mph.

The key to good chain use is to ensure they are fit properly. Make sure the chains are designed for your tire size.

The only damge I could think that could happen when using chains on the front would be from them not letting a wheel slip if power is applied to a wheel that won't turn.

Why in the owner manual they say to never do that ?

I 'm on 31/10.5*15 They are slightly bigger than stock.

I drive a 99 R 50 Pathfinder, is there someone who tried chains and tell me what kind is the best ?
