Looking at a 89-90 240 Fastback ( I dont think she said which year it was, but I saw it and it was a piggy ) and was looking to get some more opinions on whether or not it was worth it.
The Good: Low price of 260$, body is in pretty darn good shape, interior, while dirty, can be cleaned up and should be ok. Power windows and locks, no spoiler so no rust on the hatch, second set of seats included which are in pretty darn good condition. Also comes with bling-bling k-mart brand wheels.
The Bad: Pretty bad dent in the driver side door and slightly on the rear quarter panel. Automatic transmission, and an unknown engine problem (she has never seen it run, as it was purchased by her parents as a project car while she has like 4 others already). It was missing a battery as well as spark plug wires, so no chance of trying to start it up on the spot. Also, it looks like water got inside the hatch area and sat, as the area where the spare tire sits looks somewhat rusty.
The car is a black hatch with 170k miles, by the way. No sunroof (to my suprise), but a back windshield wiper and power options (as previously mentioned). The door damage isn't a problem, as I have a spare door or 2 around to replace it. The big thing I am worried about is the rust inside the hatch area. Didn't see any holes in the body, but, how hard is something like that to fix? Just sand it out? Just considering this car because it's so damn cheap and I enjoy a little restoration project. Have a good number of parts we can use to make it manual, too, so that's also an option if the transmission is shot. We have parts and a little knowhow, what do you think?
By the way, I know it's probably going to take some work to get running, so no need to point that out.
