I bought a 2000 QX4 at the beginning of this year for $5500 from a private seller. They had just done the timing belt and water pump (cost them about $800 at a repair place, not a dealer, btw). Our car had about 114,000 when we bought it, and it needs stabilizer links I think, but it's been a good car. the 3.3 is a bit underwhelming (I have a 99 blazer with a 4.3 that would blow it away off the line, if that tells you anything.)
Overall, I think that's a decent price, maybe a bit high, try to get it for $4000 or less, then it's probably worth it, if it runs good and shifts well. You should be able to get another 100k out of it without too much expense.
Big thing I've seen about these cars is that they seem to chew up oxygen sensors. Mine has set a code for it, but seems to still run well, so I haven't done them yet.
Is the body in good shape? If not, deduct for that. Same with the interior. Ours cleaned up very well. Few minor things that needed fixed, but parts are available on ebay at reasonable prices. Good luck.
