I dont know about better gearing. But I have heard that a rb20det, ca18det ka24e, sr20det, all fit but you have to change the bell housing. Im not 100% sure, but I can see them bolting up sence they use the same drive shaft, but different housings.

The ca18det gear box will bolt onto the KA bellhousing, but the transmission as a whole will not bolt up to a KA. As for better gearing, I believe that the ka, sr, and ca gear ratios are all the same.

all year USMD KA trannys are the same as CA transmission minus the 5th gear, the KA has a lower (better mileage) 5th and all KA, CA SR gearboxes bolt up the same to the bellhousing, you need to get the right bellhousing for your engine

The SR and at lest the KA24E do NOT have the same gearing, it is VERY different. The KA24E does not even have a 1:1!! The ratios are as follows:

1997 180SX SR20DET1st 3.3212nd 1.9023rd 1.3084th 1.0005th 0.759Reverse 3.382Final Drive 4.083

1990 KA24E 1st 3.2852nd 1.8503rd 1.2724th 0.9545th 0.740 .838?Reverse 3.428Final Drive 3.895

For all of the ratios, go to http://www.nissansilvia.co.nz/...e.htm

here we go again.

CA18DET(RWD) S13 SR20DET(RWD) KA24DE1st 3.321 3.321 3.3212nd 1.902 1.902 1.9023rd 1.308 1.308 1.3084th 1.000 1.000 1.0005th 0.838 0.759 0.759R 3.382 3.382 3.382

I was referring to the ka24de, not e, and the s13 sr20det, not that theres any difference in the s14 sr20det's either. The only sr thats different is the s15, for obvious reasons. And I knew one of the motors had a bigger 5th, I just couldn't remember which.
