Pulled the front cover to replace the chain guides, and noticed the driver side chain has some slack. Is this too loose, or is the chain OK?

Nope. Should be fine. Those are the new style guides. I posted a while ago how to check them with a small hole drilled in the front cover (saves a lot of effort, just need to pull the four 10mm bolts for the fan and the fan). That slack is normal. When the cams want to turn clockwise (when viewed from the front) they'll put slack in the chain like that after the engine has been shut off a while. The tensioner on the other guide (the curved one) will pump up quickly when the engine is started and remove the slack. You're good to go!

Depending on the mileage might consider replacing or at least adjusting the oil pump chain as it does stretch.
