Hey guys, so I was in the junkyard today and came across a 2001-2004 pathfinder, the dash was all picked clean, steering wheel gone, but this thing was on the seat. I believe it could be the spiral cable?

It spins and has those 2 connection you can see in the pic and a big yellow connector on the back which Id imagine is airbag. My cable has been broken forever and cruise control / air bag / hord has not worked. Would this fix it?

i cant find anything in the FSM about installing it or removing the old one, proper setup etc. Any help appreicated

Yes sir, that is the spiral cable. The connector with the yellow and blue wires is for the airbag. I'll look up the full instructions when I have all of my manual resources at hand, but it should just be a matter of removing the airbag, steering wheel, and swapping the spiral cable.

I found the install in the RS-17 section of the manual, but its very confusing with the nuetral position and right end position.

I also spun the damn thing in my hand a few times, didnt feel any resisitance, but after reading on the internet, I feel that may have snapped the cable, if it wasnt snapped already....

Would spinning it snap it surely?

I think all it's saying is to spin it all the way to the right, then turn it 2.5 turns to the left, which should give you the negative/neutral position. Basically, position it in the middle of extreme left and extreme right. Don't force it left or right; stop when you feel resistance. You know, be ginger :bigthumb:

if you keep spinning it one way and never feel it stop, yeah, it's snapped. It's basically just a 6' ribbon cable wound in a spiral inside the case. The solder points at either end of the cable are pretty fragile since the wire is so small, so even giving it a good tug at its limit will likely at least damage the solder points.

I've seen a few people repair them by replacing or resoldering the cable, but dunno if it's possible with ours.

Must be snapped the darn. I was gentle when I spun it, slow enough that I would have felt any sort of resistance, I should have know it was too good to be true when the thing was already removed from the vehicle in a junkyard

Thanks for the information though, saved me from removing mine and installing this one only to find everything still didnt work
